Complaints are mounting among Microsoft customers about glitches in the new version of the company's Money personal finance program, including errors that prevent customers from paying bills online.

Customers posting comments in a Microsoft community newsgroup and various product review pages say the new Money 2005 has made it difficult or impossible to access online bill paying services Microsoft runs through its MSN subsidiary.

Pierre Aterianus, an electrical engineer from Whitefish Bay, Wisc., said he followed Microsoft instructions to turn off MSN Bill Pay before installing Money 2005 and then reactivate the service, yet he still can't pay his credit card bill. Attempts to initiate payments either aren't sent or result in a "duplicate payment" error message, he said, and Microsoft support personnel haven't been able to provide a solution.

Currently SCi has released no details of what it's planning to do with Highlander, but creative director Patrick O'Luanaigh weighed in with his thoughts on the franchise, which the company clearly reckons has a lot of potential. You can see his point, too - it is, after all, a game about scary men with big swords hacking each other up.

"There are so many great opportunities with such a rich licence as the Highlander franchise," O'Luanaigh commented. "We will be working closely with Peter Davis and Bill Panzer to develop the Highlander universe further. The concept is ideal for a game."

It's not yet clear whether there will "be only one" Highlander game, but there will be only one 'be only one' gag in this item. Except those two. Ignore 'em. And expect to hear more about Highlander soon.

Hey, is it worth the upgrade from Money 2004 SMBE? Their invoice template system is horrible in 2004, I hope they made it better this time?

Well, I'm glad to hear that it does work as expected. I'm looking at the cd and have been holding off on the upgrade because of this "fracas".

Nice word choice, but a fracas is more akin to a brawl. I would call this a snafu?????

it works like a charm for a SMALL business
when you get file to 30mb (you know, last years data + couple utilities + 100 customers + dozen vendors + couple cars) it slows to crawl!!

I just uninstalled 2005 and went back to 2004 what a waste of money

i guess they went with xml (just a guess) and it crawls, hangs, and restarts on 3ghz pentium with 1gb ram and 9800 pro radeon, i can only imagine what it'll do for slower systems

stay away from 2005, 2004 should be a bargain soon

Program has been working quite well for me. I've paid all my bills online for several years now, and Money 2005 is working better than the previous version.

Who's in control of your money, you or the program?????
Quote this comment #9.2 Posted by petrolxl on 30 Sep 2004 - 23:19
If he has been doing it for several years, who do you think is in control.

I have paid my bills online for several years as well and I will never write another check again.

People need to get with the times. There are plenty of safeguards for your money if something ever does occur (which has never happened to me). People are so afraid of identity theft nowadays, but it seems like the people who get affected are careless with their information. Don't shop from shady sites, make sure the site is secured. and don't send out information to people who request it, unless you are 100 percent sure of the source. How hard is that?

Do you trust Microsoft???
Quote this comment #9.4 Posted by petrolxl on 01 Oct 2004 - 22:24
Yes, I do. They have never done anything to make me lose that trust either.

Yep, many of us have heard of checks. We've also heard of them getting lost in the mail, the money getting taken out late/incorrectly, among tons of other problems with them. As Far as i'm concerned, checks are stone age, and should be completely done away with. Especially gets tiresome being in line behind someone that uses checks and takes forever while the rest of us have moved away from the past. Paying bills online has been 100% problem free, and alot less headaches. I thank Microsoft for a program that does it well. Those who are so afraid of data getting stolen: Learn what safe computing practices are.

I've had LOADS of problems with 2005. Duplicate entries that don't sync up to already entered entries... its awful. I also ended up with duplicate accounts after installing it, and syncing with most banks seems to take about 4 minutes... if it works.

I guess I've just been using the Pocket PC version of Money... by the looks of it I'll stay with it.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time Microsoft has had a problem with money since the late 80s.

LOL Just what I was thinking. Remember the old adage.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
... Microsoft certainly isn't broke.

Most banks use Quicken so I am suprise that MS Money is still around. I know Bank Of America charges $9.95 a month to use quicken in order to pay bills on;ine and download transactions.

There are so many solutions out there that is far better than Ms Money, and furthermore, most banks supports those other solutions more readily than Money.
