Brighthand have found some interesting things out about Windows Mobile 2005. The operating system (code-named Magneto) will be based on Windows CE 5.0 instead of 4.2 like Windows Mobile 2003SE. Magneto will include Direct3D Mobile (D3DMobile), a graphics solution built on DirectX, Microsoft's desktop technology. This will allow Pocket PCs to offer even higher-performance graphics and multimedia, similar to a desktop experience.

I doubt many, if any, companies will actually offer upgrades. It makes them no money but costs them loads. It is better for them to just release a new PDA. Sucks for us but hey lets life.

I doubt it also .. To really take advantage of the new features of the OS you'll need hardware designed to take advantage of it.

Well, the x30 can handle it since the hardware is faster than anything out here right now.

argg ... and it still looks like windows 98 shell ... no luna treatment for windows mobile ??

yes, agreed, deadmonkey ... i don't think many will offer winmobile2005 upgrades they'd rather do some more profiteering with selling new hardware .... only toshiba offered a win2003SE upgrade so far in the pocket pcs I think ...
i dun even know if windows media player 10 mobile will be offered for download to all .. or if its just compatible with wm2003SE ...

the display prettiness is a non-issue. You design a PDA OS around the limited pixels (240x320 or at best 480x640) and maximising battery life. There are luna themes for Windows Mobile 2003, but generally speaking, the clarity leaves a lot to be desired; and increasing graphic complexity is a sure-fire way of reducing already low battery lifes...

I just wish they would make a good OS for PDA's (both Micorosft and Palm). The Pocket PC is extremely lacking and not all that easy to use.

Yes, tapping a stick onto a flat surface and waiting for a response in order to repeat the process ad nauseum is quite difficult. Honestly...what is so difficult about using a Pocket PC, and what do you want to do with it?

Thankfully when Windows Mobile 2005 comes out I'll be ready to upgrade my PDA. Granted if it comes out at the end of the year, which it dosen't seem to be the case...

And table support in Pocket Word would be very nice.

PDAs suck and are dying. The race to get something as small as possible is over. It is a pain to try to use PDAs as well as cell phone for more then reminders. Editing documents on a PDA is a hassle and not worth the effort. Notebooks are small enough and cheap enough that if you want to read your email or work on a document, you can use that instead.

You must have not heard of foldable keyboards. Still more inexpensive than notebooks.
