Building on the notion of defense in depth, McAfee has bundled together its latest security applications into a single suite aimed at home users.

MIS 2005, announced Monday, includes upgrades to the company's VirusScan, Personal Firewall Plus, Privacy Service and SpamKiller packages, which are designed to protect computers from viruses, hackers, spam, phishing scams and other online dangers. It also is meant to act as a safeguard against threats targeting instant-messaging software from America Online, Yahoo and Microsoft.

In addition, McAfee has teamed up with Hackerwatch.org to let home users report and share data about cybercriminals. Security software makers are hustling to add features to their line-ups as new threats such as phishing emerge and grow. Symantec, for instance, recently unveiled a security service designed for companies that want to protect sensitive business information from exposure and attack.

dang, I should have waited a little longer to replace my Norton AV. Now I could have gotten the suite.

Maybe but, it does not screw up your PC like Norton does...

is this as bloated as Norton Internet Security or not as much?
#2.1 SFalcon on 09 Nov 2004 - 00:34
NIS isn't terribly bloated. Norton Systemworks, yes that's bloat. But NIS 2005 isn't so bad.

BLOAT. Seriously.

Hate bloat, hate bungled (bundled) packages, hate McAfee, and to be fair, hate Norton too.

I got this suite.. its very well made. There's no Bloat in it, I use to run norton's and just decided to try something different last year.. Both are excellent programs..

McAfee is bad. First of all, i put it on a 400mhz, 256mb ram, winxp, 32 graphics and it would make the computer freeze! You couldnt play games as it would freeze all the time. I took it off and everything was fast again, BUT it still kept running in my processes and when windows started as the date it updated the definations, which i find strange cause if u uninstall a program, its meant to go away. Because of this process, it would make the comptuer go slower. I had to remove it manually to get rid of it. This is very bad for people who dont know much about computers and think they have uninstalled it, but they havent. I also found that mcafee is more worried about spyware and adware, more then viruses, which is pretty strange. THANK GOD FOR NORTON. When i had mcafee on my computer, it was sh..t. I got heaps of viruses n stuff. When in installed norton after i got rid of mcafee, it discoverd 16 viruses!!! Shows how good mcafee is, so NO ONE GO OUT AND BUY THIS PROGRAM! ITS SLOW! ITS C..P AND DOES NOTHING! USE NORTON 2005, ITS A LOT BETTER AND ALOT FASTER!

i beg to differ, i've been using Mcafee for quite awhile now, and have experienced none of the problems that you ascribe to it.. maybe your computer was just trash? every single thing that has tried to invade my computer, or anything that was accidently downloaded, it caught immediately. i think you're just bitter.

McAfee (although I don't use the home version) is one of the best antivirus solutions. It is a compromise between excellent detection rates, huristics (second only to Kaspersky) and resource usage.

For comparisons between detection rates visit:
AV-Comparatives
and click on "Comparatives" on the side bar.

I'll let the tests do the talking.

mcafee and norton both are so bloated the main reason that i changed to trend micro internet security suite very lite and run very fast
