- Pocket PCs and Smartphones kick ass. I've only toyed with Palms, so I can't really comment

- I have a Palm Tungsten T3 and my boss has an iPaq, my palm unit a joy to use and I still think that it is better organized than the Windows CE on the iPaq.
Palm's hotsync software however sux big time compared to MS Active sync. I had a Palm many years ago and I'm sure nothing has changed in this software. It's a pain to setup the sync request has to be initiated by the device or by the cradle. Unlike Active sync which takes minutes to setup and updates itself on the fly.
Palm needs to do something quick - they have sat around too long on their high horse and now MS has not only caught up but passed them by.

- It isn't really surprising. Palm OS is great but PalmOne are a bunch of idiots. They are constantly producing devices which are not what the customer wants. Like the new Treo650. Great phone but a lame camera that is the same as the Treo600.
Palm screwed it up for themselves. If they had just given customers what they want they would still be number. They also need to work on better Bluetooth and WiFi addons for the lower price PDAs as this is the main reason all the people I know who own PDAs have switched to Pocket PC.

- This is the begining of the end of Palm.
My prediction: BlackBerry will take over.

- Not suprised at all. See Sony's PDAs were the most powerful Palm based PDAs as they were the closest you could get to all the advanced and multimedia features of the Pocket PCs on a Palm. However, with Sony discontinuing their Clié line outside Japan it certanly looks like the beginning of the end.

The Palm OS, developed by PalmSource, took a dramatically steep drop, representing 29.8 percent of the market, down from 46.9 percent in the year-ago period. Analysts had expected Microsoft to grab the market lead from the handheld pioneer this year, but did not expect the Palm OS decline to be so precipitous, said Todd Kort, a Gartner analyst.
