- " The technology is solid and, although a little older, more or less on par with NVIDIA's GeForce 6 series GPUs"
Is that why they perform better in 3dmark and d3d games

- Yes because people with 'pimpin' in their nicknames who think it's cool to mix company names with a children's insult are always perfect sources for reliable unbiased information.

- Wait, I thought 3dMark's reliability had died out along with their credibility, oh well.

Clearly, you should try reading the article first.
QUOTE As most of you know, I rarely recommend that anyone actually purchase a $549 video card like the Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition, or even a $499 card like the X850 XT. That's a very high price to pay when there are better values to be had at $399 and below. However, if you want to have the fastest single graphics card available, the Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition is it. The X850 XT PE came out on top in the majority of our tests, and it did especially well when 4X antialiasing and 8X anisotropic filtering were enabled. The most notable exception was Doom 3, where the GeForce 6800 Ultra was faster, but not by all that much. ATI's decision to use application-specific optimizations in its video drivers, as NVIDIA has done for some time now, has allowed the Radeons to close the gap in Doom 3.

- I ordered my ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition two weeks ago and I was told last week that it might not ship for another four weeks. CDW is reporting backorders all the way from September. Going to be a long wait for those wanting this card

- maybe thats why nvidia cards are better
they have more to offer, even the older nvidia cards beat the ati cards hands down, everything works on them, ati cards still have problems,Nvidia all the way baby -
#5.1 Posted by insurektion on 01 Dec 2004 - 17:39
- unless you cound the older cards pathetic attempt at dx9.

- Bullets form:
- The X800s are faster in most DX9 games than the 6800s, including Half-Life 2 (the benches show a good difference there), and especially when involving AA/AF and high resolutions
- The exception to the above is Doom 3, which gives a lead to the Geforce cards
- Radeons aren't so hot at OpenGL, and really suck when used on Linux
- Only underperforming the X800 Pro in some tests, the 6800 is far less expensive, and so giving a lot more bang for the buck
- The Geforce FX line stunk, comparing similarily priced cards in DX9 games
- I have a 9800 Pro, and have had a 9600 Pro. I've never had "problems"
- ATI is Canadian, which just tips me over to their side =)

- You've used absolutely no logic, or self experience from both sides to back any claims up. The 6800GT beat the X800XT in almost every test done at Guru3d, please read before saying anything. The fact is that the FX series were NOT bad, but the drivers were underperforming until the 6 series came out.

QUOTE The 6800GT beat the X800XT in almost every test done at Guru3d
Might be true. But Anandtech (which is far more reliable) and for that matter any other hardware website show the X800 XT on top. Who is true ? Guru3D or the rest of the web ?-

- SquareSoft0: the fx series stink no matter how you slice it.
the fx series is crap. when nvidia cared more about their graphics route then dx9 -
#5.6 Posted by SquareSoft0 on 02 Dec 2004 - 03:57
- That's lower than a childish "You're a stupid head." The FX series were damn fine and you would know that if you owned a high-end one. Let me guess though, you don't and will most likely claim to in your defense?

- Seems like all the top models are hard to find, I am buying somehting in the next few weeks and the 6800 chipset seems to be the only thing you can get your hands on. Be a damn shame if some of these other boards with the newer chipsets don't hit the stores soon...

- i got a x800xt right now and would be interested in seeing how this 480 compares against the r520 next spring. i think i'll wait for the r520 - but it is pretty alarming to see that one x850xt PE for 549 can perform almost as well as two 6800 ultra in SLI in many of the games. (thats about 1300-1400 for two cards and a new board!)
-
#11.2 Posted by Hills420 on 01 Dec 2004 - 20:19
- I agree. I have the X800XT as well. I guess SLi isn't as great as the marketers want us to believe. Although, I wouldn't have two x800Xt's in my box

-
#11.3 Posted by amdme3200 on 01 Dec 2004 - 20:33
- Tell me where you get the Ati x800xt almost as fast as 2x 6800 ultra? The 6800 u and x800 xt are neck and neck.
-

- Tell me where you get that anyone even said that. Please learn to read before commenting on other posts.
"but it is pretty alarming to see that one x850xt PE for 549 can perform almost as well as two 6800 ultra in SLI in many of the games."
Hes stating that an x"850"XT not 800, can "almost" beat 2 6800u in "some" games, a perfectly true statement.

However, not all has been roses. NVIDIA's GeForce 6800 cards have been fierce competition, with the 16-pipe GeForce 6800 GT arguably offering a better value at $399 than the Radeon X800 Pro. Also, ATI's top-end product, the Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition, has been exceptionally rare. Oh, sure, the streets aren't exactly awash in GeForce 6800 Ultras, but the Platinum Edition has been brutally scarce.
