Apple today officially launched its iTunes Music Store in Canada, giving music Canadian users the same innovative features and breakthrough price of $.99 CDN per song that it offers in the US. "The demand across Canada for the iTunes Music Store has been overwhelming," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Applications. "We are excited to be able to offer music fans in Canada their own customized iTunes Music Store featuring many top Canadian artist exclusives." The iTunes Music Store in Canada features over 700,000 songs and dozens of exclusive tracks as well as the same personal use rights as in the US and Europe. MacNN first noted the iTMS for Canada late last night.

w00t, about to buy an Ipod Mini for my sister too

As an IT enthusiast I was saying "But the Ipod can store 5 times more for barely 50 bucks more, it's the best valued Ipod etc. etc."...

.. only to be answered by "But the Mini is sooooooo cute and tiny!" by both my mother and sis...

Go figure..

Plus... you can jog and exercise with the mini, not the full ipod.

Great, now I just need to tell my friends to uninstall every single trace of Illegal Files from the System Registry and throw the Hard Drive out of the window, get a new HDD and we are ready to go!
Good for the Canadians who are bothered to Download Legally, although I havent heard of them making File Sharing Legal, as far as I know, so.....................yeah, GREAT Job to Apple!

WTF are you talking about? Why would illegal files be in your system registry? Why would iTunes scan your files? How is it supposed to tell between illegally downloaded files and files you ripped yourself from CD's you own?

Now, I'm not condoning illegal downloads but I cannot cast the first stone either.

Is it even possible to download illegally in Canada? The supreme court ruled downloading legal.
#7.3 HitchcockGreen on 03 Dec 2004 - 05:05
In Canada there is currently no such thing as 'illegal downloading' of music.
Currently our copyright laws allow you to download any music you damn well please, as long as you aren't sharing yours for upload. We get away with this because we already pay a tax on recordable media that is to reimburse the artists and record companies.

Excellent. Now the question is, what do I want to buy for my first song?

Yeah, they launched the Canadian store. Too bad it's useless.

This is a small sample, but the first group It searched for, Sum 41 a Canadian group, produced NO results by the group.

Fine, you might say, they're just not on iTunes yet. EXCEPT THEY ARE. There are 65 results in the US store for this Canadian group, INCLUDING EXCLUSIVES, but NO RESULTS in the Canaidan store.

And do you not understand that there is different licensing in each country?
#9.2 daz- on 03 Dec 2004 - 04:41
Yea, they'd need to work it out with each artists record label to allow it to be released in each individual country.

I love how much cheaper it is for us to get songs up here in Canadaland as opposed to the US, and maybe other places as well....?

$0.99 US is worth a lot more than $0.99 Canadian ^_^ You'd be rich up here with that kind of money!

well, multiply that by, say 3500 songs .14 x 3500 = 490 Bucks
over the long haul, that's a bit o savings
