- So how close are we to RTM? Are they going to do a large and extended test like with XP Sp2, or is this close to the end?

- Only the fact that it is likely that games will run slower, drivers aren't guaranteed to work, and you have to hack the sucker to even get it to behave like a workstation. All of which are desirable qualities in a workstation OS.

- From my personal experience i can say (running it for a long time now) that games don't run slower, every driver so far worked without problems (all xp drivers run fine on server 2003). and no, you have to hack anywhere except turnung on directx acceleration through display settings dialog and starting the windows audio service

QUOTE Erm why, you don't use it as a workstation do you
Why not? There are plenty of good reasons to use Windows Server 2003 as a workstation or desktop OS.

- i agree, the list is weak, but if you would try it as your os for a month or two you will see the advantages in many small things you will like

- Does this mean i have to uninstall sp1 1247 beta?
-

- 99% of these cases, yes.

- And even if you don’t, it’s a good idea to uninstall the service pack or do a clean install before installing the new one. It pretty much helps gets rid of any leftover files from the previous beta and I believe installing over a beta is not one of the normal test scenarios most users would face so it would make no sense testing that scenario.
