Apple is testing a new Web chat support service for iMac customers. The service is claimed to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but only to iMac users, who Apple invites to test the service. Web chat support means a user can get direct assistance to help them solve their problem from a human operator from within the browser.

The converted digital audio files can be archived on a computer or burned to a CD. When combined with a Mac system equipped with Garage Band (included in iLife) or Sound Studio, Mac users can export directly to their personal iTunes music libraries. Music files created with Instant Music can be played back from a PC or a portable MP3 player and are compatible with digital media receiver devices like the new ADS Tech Media-Link Wireless Receiver. With Media-Link connected to a home stereo system, consumers can play back all of the music stored on their PC.

To begin recording, users simply plug the Instant Music device into a computer's USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port. Once the files are converted, the Nero Mix, Nero SoundTrax and Nero Wave Editor software bundled with Instant Music can be used to arrange them into play lists, edit start/stop times or add a cross fade from one track to the next for a smooth transition. With the step-by-step wizard features, even novices can personalise their music by selecting tracks, adding transition effects, and using the equalizer to set the volumes. For professional results, the Audio Cleaning tools can be used to filter out unwanted pops, clicks and hisses.

In addition to Instant Music, PC World is also selling the Instant TV range, from ADS Tech. This new family of products will allow users to watch record and manipulate analogue television through their PC.

Pricing and Availability
The Instant Music is priced at 39.99 GBP including VAT, and is available from PC World, Amazon, dabs.com and savastore.com

Don't want to be a pain...

But this is quite old, I had to use this back in Sept when I was griping about the speaker issue.

I really wish more companies would adopt chat technical service. I've used it with a website host before and it's great. No waiting for e-Mails, no costly phone calls, just instant help.

I've used it with HP and it was 2 hours of my life "I will never get back"...

I had a media center with an x700 pluged into a cinema display at 1920x1200. There were artifacts like crazy, so I posted on Neowin the next day and the guys here solved the problem...

I short, this was my only experience with a "chat" and most of it is just a bot getting info with scripted responces.... I wonder how apple's will work...

Neowin.net community can solve basically any computer problem now-a-days.

I had the exact same experiance. When I asked them questions that are hard to script ahead of time it took a long time to reply, and the answer seemed like a combination of scripted responses

Provided that the service is good, this is good news and could prove to be quite helpful, especially for myself as I just bought an iMac

geez - MS has had this for years now. What's up with that? Oh wait a second, I'm sorry - Apple invented this first I forgot - forgive me. Do you think apple will start serving water since they invented that first also? BTW- is this story even worth posting? I think not.

What the hell? Nobody claimed this to be the first live chat support system, but it's kinda big news for iMac users now and other Mac users in the future. Troll~

Why only iMac? What about other Apple products?

This is pathetic. The Neowin news quality is completely going downhill. First the bribe article for that audio converter app, and now this ancient news (this has been around for months).
#9.1 PlainLazy on 02 Mar 2005 - 09:03
Not everyone may be aware of the service (I didn't, but now I do) There is nothing wrong with Neowin's news "quality".
