- X800XL version for $350-$370 includes special features such as Dual DVI and VIVO so it costs a bit more. CompUsa and MicroCenter are selling the X800XL for $300 MSRP and have units in stock. ATI just shipped out most of their preorders for the card, I got mine for unde $250. I have the card in my hand. They are late, but now becoming available in higher quantities.

- Once big companies, like DELL, HP etc. Begin to ship PCI-E Pc's then there will be a drop of price in high end AGP cards. Correct me if i'm wrong.

- last time i checked big companies like dell already were... my dell already has a PCI express graphics card in it and it's from dell

- I don't think you are going to see a price drop for AGP cards. From the news I read and the pricing I see on all these cards, it seems that PCI-E cards are cheaper to produce then AGP cards are. Kind of like how PC133 ram costs the same as the MUCH faster PC2700 ram simply because they cost the same to manufactuer (and those who need PC133 ram can't use the faster PC2100+ ram).
now, correct me if I'm wrong

QUOTE Furthermore, the spokesman told X-bit labs that the company was going to have a special rebate program for North America, which would allow users to obtain the RADEON X800 for $199.
Noice ! R.I.P 6600GT

- Unless nVidia can improve their SLi support for the majority of applications, then it's heading that way. Saying that, the X800 is quite late to the market and the 6600GT has established itself nicely.
6600GT's are incredibly popular because they are so readily available, something that can't be said for most recent ATi cards - it depends purely on if ATi can get this to market in large enough quantities.

- 249 usd amounts to about 300 cad, and 300 cad for a x800 card sounds like a great deal to me!

- $199 for an x800...
How much faster is the x800 compared to a 9800 Pro? I've got a second computer here that needs an upgrade from the 9200. [Wheels are turning...]. I can upgrade my 9800 Pro to a x800 in my primary machine, and 9200 to 9800 pro in my secondary machine. -

- Considering that the X800 is a good deal faster than the 6600GT, which in turn is a fair bit faster than the 9800 Pro, thats a good upgrade.

- They should stop producing AGP cards and force people to use PCIe

Behold, 22 PCI Express motherboards of various chipsets for AMD socket 939 processors.
EDIT: linking the search doesn't work. Goto Newegg's AMD motherboard page and set AGP slot to none and you will see them http://www.newegg.com/app/manufact.asp?cat...talog=22&DEPA=1

- AGP will be obsolete soon, they will soon become as useless as PCI vid cards.

- I've always read that AGP8X isn't even utilized. All the performance data relating to various games show slight if any speed increase between 4x and 8x.
PCie is 16X. I suspect it will take a loooong time to make use of this.

- The only reason PCIe cards are cheaper coz manufacturers are trying to get peeps over to PCIe instead of AGP. And of course adding to that the insignificant cost of the AGP bridged chip

- What peeves me the most is that the whole world subsidises the US market. Note the price in dollars, then take into account the US of A and Canada only rebate. Now look at the price in any European country, UK, aproximately the same number of StgPds as it is retail in dollars or almost double the price, here in Cyprus, CyPds about the same number as the dollar price, maybe even higher, or in real terms 2.5-3 times the US price.
With the high end cards, it would almost be cheaper to fly from the UK to JFK, get a cab to CompUSA, buy the card and fly back.
This is exactly the same obselete business model as Audio CD's DVD's etc. The only difference is that we cannot exactly fight back by using P2P services.

The recommended pricing for AGP 8x flavours of graphics cards based on the RADEON X800, X800 XL and X850 XT visual processing units (VPUs) is $249, $349 and $499 respectively. While pricing of the RADEON X800 and X800 XL products is $50 higher compared to pricing of PCI Express x16 versions of similar graphics cards, an ATI spokesperson noted that the RADEON X800 XL for AGP 8x features video-in/video-out (VIVO) capability not available on PCI Express version. Furthermore, the spokesman told X-bit labs that the company was going to have a special rebate program for North America, which would allow users to obtain the RADEON X800 for $199. The official declined to reveal details about the forthcoming deals.
Thanks JCAP for the heads-up on this one
