According to reliable sources, MSN are preparing to go live with the next version of their widely popular instant messaging client, MSN Messenger.

Tomorrow, the 7th April will mark the 7th version in a long history of MSN Messenger. MSN Messenger originally debuted in July 1999 and Microsoft claims that over 100 million unique users log on to the MSN Messenger service each month.

With the release of version 7 comes new features such as animated Winks (derived from 3 Degrees, a Nudge feature to wake your contacts up and the ability to show your contacts what music you're currently playing.

MSN Messenger has been in Beta testing since late September of 2004. 7 months on the client has gone through some great changes and MSN is finally happy with the result.

Microsoft were unavailable for comment at the time of writing but we're awaiting an official statement regarding the Messenger release.

Meanwhile, MSN Spaces is due out of beta today according to PCMag.

Update: Looks like we have an exclusive download link for you a bit early :) Enjoy

If its released tomorrow its going to contain bugs.

The newsgroups (Mike) Has not mentioned it at all.

Plus new bugs are still being filed.

IF, its released tomorrow, its going to have bugs + removed features.

features removed?

still with bugs,so why this long 7 month wait?

my opinion is that msn messenger 7 will be a quelity product,a final release don't have features removed as far as i know

I hope you can disable the OH AMAZING great new so and so Wink feature and the DRAWING crap I can't disable on MSN6 if people have MSN7. If I can't I'm not switching, I better update my hosts list to block all them adverts. If this does not support other media players for displaying song name then that sucks.

i seem to recall ICQ having offline messaging when i started using it 6 or 7 years ago.. so theres certainly no technology reasons for lacking it.
offline IM stops people from constantly running their client, and reduces e-mail hits

Um I think your mistaken....

This file block has been in since 7.0.0732
If you wanna send JPGs and stuff, then go to 7.0.0632, send it to a person that has 7.0.0632 or below and youll see how it works...

Personally this is a pretty good feature. It reduces viruses spreading...
Quote this comment #35.7 Posted by Geo on 08 Apr 2005 - 02:10
MSN Messenger just started using that SP2 feature, if you disable it, it disables it for everything else, Internet Explorer for example.

Dynamic display pictures can change according to the mood you specify.
On the Tools menu, click Change Display Picture. (If the menu bar doesn't appear at the top of the conversation window, the window frame may be hidden. Click in the upper left corner of the window, or press ALT to restore it.)
Click Create Dynamic Display Picture.
On the MSN partner site, create the dynamic display picture you want to use. The picture will be automatically installed.
Select a picture from the list.
Click OK.

This feature isn't present on build 777. Why? Isn't this build supposed to be final?

Interestingly enough, for the first few minutes Messenger 7 is running for, the memory usage is really high (40 - 60 MB). Let it run for some time and it dips to 10 MB, and even 9 if it's minimized.
