- AMD sure have intel scared. I've never seen them scramble to beat AMD's launch like this.

- As far as I know, Intel's new P4 840 EE is both 64-bit, and dual-core. I keep more track of the AMD side of things than I do the Intel, but a few friends tell me this is correct.
I doubt the AMD will beat Intel to the punch. AMD is scheduled to launch in 10 days, and Intel is shipping now and launching "the middle of this month". I'd love nothing more than for Intel to be the 1st loser to dual-core, but I guess we will see who's holding the pocket Ace's. -

- First off AMD could have had themout months ago they've been around for a while already, Intel just wants to have their minions think they had the idea first.

Your thoughts make no sense.
When was the dual core opteron ever considered as a gaming CPU? What server do you know of that uses P4EE cpu's?
The P4EE was always headed toward the high end gamer/power user.

- One interesting thing about the 840 EE is that it still has Hyper-threading; so the single processor has two cores and four logical processors. All of the other 800 series chips will have hyper-threading turned off so you just that the flat dual-core system.
Most benchmarks have not been able to show any performance boost from the EE's HT. From what I have read the best thing to do would be to save about $500 by waiting for the Pentium D 840; which performs exactly the same under almost all benchmarks.
The best value seems to be the Pentium D 820. It will only cost about $240 and is only about 20% slower then the $1,000 Pentium 840 EE.
PS, for those who remember my post on the topic of Pentium 4 and when we would see the P5; I stated that Intel would probably drop the number all together and call it something like the Pentium M. Well, these chips are now called the Pentium D; it looks like I was correct. -

- They need to get rid of "Pentium" period and get a new name...

"The launch will be in the immediate future," said Abhi Talwalkar, vice president and general manager of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group, speaking with reporters at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Taipei. He said Intel's dual-core announcement was "imminent."
Intel and Advanced Micro Devices are both close to launching dual-core processors based on the x86 instruction set. AMD is likely to be first, with the launch of its first dual-core Opteron processors expected on April 21. The date marks the two-year anniversary of the introduction of Opteron, which was AMD's first 64-bit chip.

In addition to listing the publishers, Microsoft also listed the high-profile developers currently working on games for the next Xbox. Curiously missing from the developer list is Valve Software, which is widely believed to be working on current- and/or next-generation Xbox versions of its PC smash hit, Half-Life 2. The full list, which was also in the GNN story, contained the following companies:
BioWare Corp.
Bizarre Creations Ltd.
Bungie Studios
Epic Games Inc.
FASA Studio
Lionhead Studios Ltd.
Rare Ltd.
Game Republic Inc. (Yoshiki Okamoto)
Mistwalker (Hironobu Sakaguchi)
Q Entertainment Inc.(Tetsuya Mizuguchi)
Microsoft's release also reiterated the message delivered by corporate vice president and chief XNA architect J Allard at his GDC keynote in March. Namely, the next-generation Xbox will usher in the "HD Era" of gaming with its "high-definition graphics, extraordinary benefits of constant connectedness, and exceptional personalization abilities." Without getting specific, Microsoft also said the next Xbox will feature "multichannel audio fidelity," "richer online communication" (most likely the video messaging shown at last year's E3), and an "abundance of on-demand content delivered by the Microsoft Xbox Live service."
For readers who still had not gotten its point, Micorsoft also featured a passel of quotes from publishing executives. To a person, they praised the forthcoming platform, and divulged a few details in the process. Among them were:
--Activision, Atari, Bandai, Buena Vista, Capcom, Codemasters, EA, Konami, and Midway are all working on multiple titles for the console.
--Sega is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog and other games from its "stable of popular franchises" to the platform.
--One or more of Rockstar Games' internal studios--either Rockstar San Diego (Midnight Club), Rockstar North (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), or Rockstar Vancouver (currently working on "original action titles")--is developing games for the platform. (Rockstar Leeds is a developer for handheld platforms.)
--Massively multiplayer online role-playing game developer/publisher Webzen is working on a game that will take advantage of the next version of Xbox Live's "stable service and online capabilities." Recently, the company announced APB, a crime-based MMORPG from Grand Theft Auto creator David Jones.
Also Tucked away in Microsoft's announcement was word of Microsoft's plans for forthcoming titles for the current-generation Xbox. Near the end of the statement, Microsoft states that it is "fully committed to this generation," and that Xbox owners can expect new titles into 2007.
