It looks like the Windows version tag in winver has changed after applying the updates:

#7.1 netizen on 12 Apr 2005 - 20:38
That's... odd. Still the same rtm.040803-2158 here. What does gdr mean?
#7.2 WindowsNT on 12 Apr 2005 - 20:52
I have gdr here.
#7.3 venejo on 12 Apr 2005 - 21:02
This version changes only when an update contains new kernel files such as ntoskrnl.exe, ntkrnlpa.exe and one of the new updates does that. The new files -> properties have the vesrion that winver.exe shows.

Odd...my build number is higher than that. Mine is;

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp.050301-1521 : Service Pack 2)

Did you guys do a slipstreamed clean install, and are you running Pro or Home?
#7.5 oqwarrior on 12 Apr 2005 - 23:03
The "1519" and "1521" at the end of the tags are nothing more than the time at which the build was compiled. In this case, the two builds were compiled on March 1, 2005 at 15:19 and/or 15:21 (3:19pm and 3:21pm PST).

I am running XP Pro in the above screenshot.
#7.6 joseph- on 13 Apr 2005 - 00:08
Ok, but what is that gdr section about?

-edit-

Nevermind, didn't read down far enough.

What does gdr stand for thats what i want to know?
#11.1 rseiler on 12 Apr 2005 - 22:17
If these updates cause problems, it stands for "grin, duck, run," otherwise it stands for "general distribution releases" as explained here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824994

Is there a list for all the updates after SP2? It's very useful for slipstreaming my XP installation.

For those asking what GDR stands for...

Software updates that address widespread critical issues, such as security vulnerabilities, and that are broadly released by Microsoft are also known as general distribution releases (GDRs).

Anyone having BIG problems with Win XP after the update? After the update I can't connect to Windows Update, cant click on links with Javascript. I tried opening System Restore, but only an empty window opens up. I click on search files and folders and get a blank window too. A lot of things are not working right. I thought maybe a virus, so opened Norton 2005 to scan. The program opens, but I can't scan because nothing is listed in the status area of the program. I can perform a LiveUpdate (nothing new), but I can't check the status or do a scan. I think the update messed up something to do with javascript or activex. What do these programs and sites need to run, and why are they not loading?

Any suggestions?
#14.1 Richardo on 13 Apr 2005 - 03:27
Norton uses activex, so does windows update, look in your IE options and make sure its not been disabled
#14.2 tazdevl on 13 Apr 2005 - 03:51
A lot of web pages just aren't loading since the update. Looks like MS screwed the pooch as usual. Almost seems like my connection is timing out.
#14.3 kad.au on 13 Apr 2005 - 08:02
I always back up my machine with trueimage before the monthly update time, this is why
#14.4 Jon on 13 Apr 2005 - 09:06
Remove each patch one by one until the problem is resolved. Then reinstall all but the last patch. If problem still doesn't reappear, there is the culprit. Spread the word, and soon enough someone will figure out what's happening.
#14.5 sholmes1 on 13 Apr 2005 - 10:45
How do I uninstall the latest patches? The only way I know how is to visit Windows Update, but that is not working. The patches are not listed in "Add and remove programs".

I tried booting in Diagnosic startup (didn't help) and now it says I have 3 days to reactivate Windows. The only thing I added since I installed was a DVD burner. Even activate windows is not working....It just loads a blank blue window with pictures in each of the top corners that don't load.

I tried the Microsoft Help and Support online(Help and Support on the computer does not load) and it says it needs activex. How do I get activex back?
#14.6 sholmes1 on 13 Apr 2005 - 10:47
FYI....ActiveX is enabled in IE

They are, if you tick the 'show updates' botton which is top centre of the add / remove window.

(Sod it. It seems after years of neowin I still can't reply to the correct comment!! )

Thanks...I was able to see the updates although none said they were installed on 4/12. I did not uninstall, but instead I called the free Microsoft SP2 hotline and talked to a rep. He had me download and run a file that rebuilt the java dll's. They must have been damaged during the install. After that....all was working fine.

Thanks for everyones input.

Darn!

The patch had a new shell32.dll.
Had to reshack it all over again.

All for security.
