- The worl will come to an end if you can't even rely on Mcafee anymore...
I can only say one thing. Thank you m$ for being there and preventing people using Linux. Less Linux users means less chance virusses for 'nix will be made.
Still happy running my Linux box without virus scanner since day one and still 100% virus free.
You might want to add another flaw to this list:
Warning: you are REQUIRED to use m$ internet explorer to download mcafee anti virus software. Some months ago I bought a subscription with mcafee for one of my windows stations and the payment processing went really smooth with FireFox. Everything worked like a charm until the download page.No matter what you do, you need to use m$ie. I called them on the phone that my ie was broken and they just replied "get it fixed, then download virusscan"!

- Actually I have several viruses on my Linux box that are sent by emai every day! Only thing is they cannot execute themselves since the executable file format used on windows differs from that used on Linux.
Another thing that is very handy (but requires free registration) is the Mcafee Webimune site. Either email the suspected files zipped in a password protected file or upload them to the webimune site for free analisys. -

- ms antispyware has very basic 'intrusion detection' functionality, and will ask for user confirmation for changes to the system; changes that might constitute a virus being run, trying to add itself to startup, browser hijacks, etc etc.

- I have been running Windows computers for about 15 years now and have never used virus software and have still never been infected with either a virus, worm or spyware. All of those protection programs are just there to protect people from them selves.
As long as you are cautious of what you download, keep your computer up to date and keep a firewall running you will be fine.

- employees? This is their retail product, not the corporate. A business should be using their corporate products. Heck it actually says on the system requirements for this "FOR USE ON HOME PC".

Firefox works fine on the corporate side. I can download everything I am licensed.
Only the retail crap requires IE. -

- I agree so what is this is an issue on the home version. I use the Corporate/Enterprise version - McAfeeASAP I use the anti-virius, firewall as well as their Managed Mail protection. It beats anything I have ever used. Its great not having any spam or virius coming in via email, but I know my whole system is protected.

- I've just found a flaw in Symantec AV 9.01 Enterprise Edition also
. A Windows 2003 Server with all patches and SP1 but has a virus on it from 2003 that SAV don't see. What the heck are we paying for here ! -

- a) why're you executing unknown / potentially infected executables on a server?
b) why is 2003, with an enterprise AV solution sitting out on the internet without adequate firewall protection?
c) why're you using symantec av? generally it's pants.

- I'd like to add that last week when the Mytob virus was going around, Norton wouldnt detect it because Live Update is only updated once a week....
I had to muanlly update the virus definitions on all my machines because Norton didnt think MyTob was seriuos enough. -

The vulnerability, which exists in the default settings applied during installation, gives anyone the same access rights on a PC as an IT administrator. That, in effect, would let someone remove any restricted access specified on a PC, according to a report released by iDefense on Monday. It could also let an employee install software prohibited by his employer.
An employee who shares a computer with co-workers, for example, could then access colleagues' files or install programs such as peer-to-peer software on the machine. Home users are unlikely to be affected by this flaw because they generally do not assign user restrictions on their PCs, said Michael Sutton, iDefense Labs director.
