Purchasing technology can be frustrating—the minute you buy something, the new version becomes available. We understand this frustration and have created a program in cooperation with our partners to help alleviate it.
The Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Technology Advancement Program enables customers who have purchased Windows XP Professional (32-bit) to exchange it for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. You will need to have an x64 processor (the AMD Athlon 64, AMD Opteron, Intel Pentium 4 with EM64T, or Intel Xeon with EM64T) to run the new software.
Note: Orders for the Technology Advancement Program must be placed by July 31, 2005.
Since many of our partners are taking part in this program, you should check with your PC manufacturer to see if they support the exchange on your x64 computer. If they support the program, your PC manufacturer will be able to provide you with a CD that includes all of the right drivers and software specific to your computer. If you built your PC yourself or have purchased it through a system builder, you can make the exchange through the link to the right. Cost for shipping and handling of upgrade is $12.00 USD for domestic shipments and $22.00 USD for International shipments plus any applicable taxes.

Well, the new version uses Windows Update Agent (WUA) 2.0 in conjunction with its scan results and scanning. If it finds a product which needs a newer version or a new update, it will provide the necessary information about the update and a direct download link. It also will check operating systems and service packs. Windows NT will show up with a red X if it is the operating system used, this is because of the end of support for that operating system. Reports now list the most current updates that are installed and not yet replaced by newer updates.
Baseline Security Analyzer adds support for many new products, with widens the range of support it can give you for your programs and services that need updating. The new version also supports Windows 64-Bit edition and Windows XP Embedded Edition.
Updates with MSBA 2.0 Reporting:
- Provide a "not yet approved" score for WSUS server administrators
- Current Update Compliance (history) appears in the report
- ‘Restart Required’ now shown in report
- Now offers XML output for all update scanning
• MBSA 1.2.x had XML only for MBSA-style scans, not /HF scans
- Elimination of the blue asterisk ‘Note’ message for security updates
- Locate update packages, KB and bulletin directly
- Maximum bulletin severity and 3rd party related IDs
Error Messages are now handled in an easier fashion:
- Many error messages made easily actionable
- ‘How to correct this’ link in report
• Opens new guidance in main help file
- Main help and FAQ work in conjunction with error messages
- Web site FAQ topic enhanced over time
This new version of Baseline Security Analyzer looks a very strong release. The integration with Windows Update Services is promising and something that I am pleased to think will ease the process of patching a system that needs it.

- the offer doesn't come from microsoft.com, but rather from a productorder.com page
- that page was created in MS Frontpage 4.0 (eh?)
- Go have a look at the Order Status Lookup page
A definite hoax IMO. I'm surprised Neowin didn't check these things before approving news like this beforehand...
Oh and I bet this site isn't owned by microsoft if somebody wantts to go and whois the site
and if you still dont believe it go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/upgrade/default.mspx which links directly to that site microsoft.productorder.com
You have to be suspicious if something doesn't look right.
I'd expect nothing less from a Microsoft or a Microsoft-affliated site.
* Using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3
Local Microsoft Offices should have their copies in my opinion. I don't want to pay $22+taxes for a shipment from the US (which might be lost anyway) when there is Microsoft UK which could ship it much cheaper and safer.
And I will agree with C-Fu, the site looks weird, there are some "bugs" on this page, like the "Microsoft Worldwide" and "Site Map" buttons don't match the rest of the blue bar. Weird but has happened again when MS changes layout of their site about 1.5 year ago or so.

And what's up with the date range for when the OS was bought? This is retarded.
About the date range, it is not retarded. XP came out in 2002 i believe so it is perfectly fare to give those dates.
(I think the date ranges were roughly based on when the first AMD64 chips were available?)
It's not to give everyone who wants one a free trade-up.
Sorry this was meant as a reply to my comment above
In order for the Customer System to be eligible for Technology Advancement Software, the end user customer must have acquired qualifying Windows XP Professional software (Qualified Software) from a system builder:
Preinstalled on a fully assembled computer system (Customer System) or
Sold with a non-peripheral hardware component.
This clearly throws out retail versions. Sorry for all you who have a retail (non-OEM) version.
I tried with a legit OEM product ID from my System Properties Windows, took it just fine.
Also, you do not enter the actual Windows key into any of the fields: the first field is the barcode #'s from the OEM version on the sticker just underneath the actual key, I tried the actual key, didn't fit the fields. The second field to try is the Product ID (right-click My Computer, left-click Properties, shows there).
XP Home: Upgrade to Pro, then upgrade to x64. (will cost you another license)
95/98/Me/2000: SOL
Pro OEM: Contact your dealer.
Pro Retail: Trade in your Pro key for x64 free download.
x64 will not be provided as a stand alone Retail product.
x64 can be purchased preinstalled on prebuilt 64bit machines.
Now, whether or not any of that changes.....who knows.
Anyone catch this from that site?:
Installation of x64 WILL VOID any support with your PC manufacturer.
Additional calls to Microsoft support will be available on a PAY-PER-INCIDENT basis.
Those two add up to BULLS**T.
"If you built your PC yourself or have purchased it through a system builder, you can make the exchange through the link to the right."
Are you guys sure this is only for XP Pro?
Since many of our partners are taking part in this program, you should check with your PC manufacturer to see if they support the exchange on your x64 computer. If they support the program, your PC manufacturer will be able to provide you with a CD that includes all of the right drivers and software specific to your computer. Microsoft's Upgrade Site
On Microsoft's web site it says that if you built the PC yourself then you can make the exchange as well, so they have to honor it or otherwise it would be false advertising.
thanks
Jeeze, some people are just plain stupid.
Yes, that's why it's called a 64-bit OS
Doesn't have to be. If you were smart enough to buy a system that had 64bit CPU in it, then you can get the free upgrade OS, and it won't cost you anything. If you have a 32bit CPU, then why would you want a 64bit OS? It doesn't come with anything new, it's still WinXP SP2 based.
I don't smell anything
hmmm, Ironic
Poindexter, eh? Welcome to the 30's.
It's called "business," something that companies do to make money. However if 64bit processors were ****, then no one would buy them. But obviously that's not the case - users have been demanding the 64-bit version of Windows because Microsoft was considering not even releasing it (if memory serves).
The reason I was calling your comment stupid because it wasn't thought through at all. You probably just read the title for this article and went off on a rant on conspiracies and such.
Grow up.
It's called business, eh? Go figure. How old are you anyway? I think you need to take a hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if you're really a grown-up that has too much time on his hands or if you're a kid who needs to stop pretending he's a grown-up. Don't lecture me on economics or big business, junior. It seemed strange that Microsoft would do this. That's all I was trying to say, but instead you insult me like a piece of garbage. Well, screw you, pal.
To anyone else saying relax and it's ironic for my ranting myself or any other BS, first of all, I don't take bullsh*t from people who see their way clear to blatantly insult me, especially from across the globe. Maybe you people take sh*t, but I don't. Stop telling me to calm down for not taking other people's garbage; I'm tired of it.
