EU Says to Take Steps if Microsoft Doesn't Comply

The EU's anti-trust chief met Microsoft's CEO in Brussels and warned him that the tech giant must stop abusing Windows' virtual monopoly or face action, the European Commission said on Wednesday. European Union Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes and Steve Ballmer met at short notice late on Tuesday at Microsoft's request to discuss its failure to comply with a March 24, 2004, decision setting out steps the company must take.

"What Mrs Kroes said is that the Commission expects the decision ... to be complied with urgently and in full, and she added that unless this was the case that the Commission would be obliged to take formal steps to ensure compliance," Commission competition spokesman Jonathan Todd said. "For the moment we are still not satisfied," he told a news briefing.

So let’s speculate on what else the “Do no Evil” campaign has installed for us.

A. G Messenger?
Probability: 90%

As Page stated, 70% of the company’s resources are directed towards searches and related services and only 20% of the company’s income are allotted for the development of other services, like Froogle for instance.
But Page also stressed the importance of online social communication, and considering that out of the 20% allotted to other types of services, Google was able to launch Gmail, the chances for an instant messaging program are very high.

It’s hard to believe the growing popularity of these services and the fact that they represent excellent advertising platforms has not been taken into consideration by Google.
Hello, the photo sharing service, already contains the seeds of an IM service and let’s not forget Orkut, an online social communication network, which is affiliated to Google.
So don’t be shocked if in a short time you will add G Messenger or Google Messenger to your list of messengers along with Yahoo and MSN.

Sheeesh. Quit threatening now and start acting. They've had long enough.

Any more idle threats and we'll start to look like an American judicial system.

Wow, do you write your own material? You should do stand-up. I mean gosh, anti-American sentiment forced into your post, very intelligent and witty.

You seem to be under an odd illusion that I post to gain your approval. I don't. You are neither important enough or interesting enough for that. Even if I were Anti-American, I have no need to apologise for it; and least of all to you.

Now, this time, try to stop your knee from jerking as you read. My point is that the USA's judicial system has done diddly with MS other than send out some harsh words. I want the EU to be a bit braver and forceful, and not follow the American judicial system route of just throwing out words every now and again.

If disagreeing with the weakness showed by the American judicial system over this is Anti-Americanism, then either I am guilty, or you are just a tad paranoid. If it's the latter, quit crying and get over it.

Amazing, you're a real internet-badass now. Though remember that "mightier-than-thou" statements do not work online. If you're going to blatantly troll like this then perhaps you shouldn't try denying it.

That line should read - "For the moment, we are not sucking enough money from that American company just yet."

Well I hope none of you decide to develop software with built in functionality such as additional features. EU help you if you do.

m00...
a n00b is satisfied with the ms software put in to ms win, but a geek wont... but a geek has the knowledge to remove the stuff included....
i think that crap is overdone at all...
when i buy an os i expect it to run the basic apps just after the install, the EU will not allow this and thats why the EU sucks... the EU might look like a fair and consumer-friendly unit but hell it is NOT.
i think they just wanna make €€€...
sigh... when im gonna buy longhorn its gonna be the US Version from eBay...

Exactly.

Why doesn't the EU just switch to Linux? MS only has a monopoly when there is no viable alternative. Unless Linux isn't considered viable.
