Technology publisher John Wiley & Sons said Tuesday that Apple Computer Inc. had removed all of its books from Apple store shelves ahead of the publication of a biography of Apple CEO entitled "iCon Steve Jobs."

"There were conversations with an Apple executive and following that the books were pulled," said Wiley spokeswoman Lori Sayde-Mehrtens. "It's an unfortunate decision for us and we're clearly disappointed in their decision." The Wiley books were removed late last week said Sayde-Mehrtens, adding that the two companies have had a long-standing partnership. An Apple spokesman declined to comment on the book or whether Wiley publications had been pulled from Apple shelves, but author Jeffrey Young said Apple did not like his book.

So let’s speculate on what else the “Do no Evil” campaign has installed for us.

A. G Messenger?
Probability: 90%

As Page stated, 70% of the company’s resources are directed towards searches and related services and only 20% of the company’s income are allotted for the development of other services, like Froogle for instance.
But Page also stressed the importance of online social communication, and considering that out of the 20% allotted to other types of services, Google was able to launch Gmail, the chances for an instant messaging program are very high.

It’s hard to believe the growing popularity of these services and the fact that they represent excellent advertising platforms has not been taken into consideration by Google.
Hello, the photo sharing service, already contains the seeds of an IM service and let’s not forget Orkut, an online social communication network, which is affiliated to Google.
So don’t be shocked if in a short time you will add G Messenger or Google Messenger to your list of messengers along with Yahoo and MSN.

What did the publisher expect? I'm assuming that the book slates Steve Jobs so they can hardly expect them to sell it for them too.

Still, this action will ensure a good sell for the book.

I've read everywhere that this book is supposed to be positive.

I'm sure the book mentions the truth about how lame apple is.

I think you mean:

Fanboys are lame.

But seriously, I find it hilarious that the article uses the same "Evil Chubby Man" picture that Neowin does. Has anyone taken another picture of him, ever? Because a candid picture of him sneezing can't look less flattering.

Oh how the truth hurts. Actually, I'm not surprised at apple's actions. They (and their user base) live in a closed fantasy world.

(you apple guys are just too easy)

Maybe so SlakeT, but we can always count on you to troll every Apple related thread.

The only "fantasy world" that most Apple users live in is the one where we have no viruses or other malware, have systems that run for weeks or months on end with no reboots or system crashes, and get new features added to the OS on a fairly regular basis.
#3.7 SlakeT on 28 Apr 2005 - 18:59
Oh, now my sides are hurting. We have an office full of macs. Let's see...11 of them. No crashes or reboots? No viruses? LOL! You are fooling yourself friend.

I'm just dishing it back friend. You apple zealots troll into everysingle MS thread on the planet..all three of you. LOL!

Slake, set down the torch for a second, there's no mob supporting you here. Roadwarrior was pointing out that somewhere out there exist Apple users who believe those things. (What a concept.) Reread roadwarrior's post so that you may prevent yourself from digging into a deeper hole, then you may retreat under the bridge until the next Apple article.

That's crazy...because we apparently live in the same fantasy world. Except I wasn't so deluded or clueless enough to think I had to buy specific hardware to achieve that goal. Go you.
#4 rm20010 on 27 Apr 2005 - 23:51
All of their books? I'm pretty sure not all of their books are anti Apple.

This is seriously ridiculous. Why should they have their partnership dismantled over one book? It's not like a single person writes all the books. And besides, this is a sign that Apple is going too far with this forged positive image of Jobs.

Apple is all good and all positive? Dream on.

..on an unrelated note, how did this become the first post?
#5 Bwizzel-B on 27 Apr 2005 - 23:58
The simple fact that they would go to an extreme like this to pull all the publishers books off the shelf tells you everything you need to know: Steve Jobs is a self-centered, egomaniacal prima dona. But his computers kick butt

Wow. Seems like Apple is turning into an evil company.

Turning?

Whare have you been for the last 20 years

Censorship is bad. Period.

There are many things that I dont like, or do not agree with, but *I* do not wish that those ideas/thoughts/etc to be removed from distribution. I simply do not view them.

I find it sad and pathetic when a person or company finds that the best way to deal with opposition is through censorship.
#10 MegaManXcalibur on 28 Apr 2005 - 20:46
I'm not trying to be an *** here but seriously Apple needs to just cool down on this subject. The fact is Steve Jobs is now a public figure which means people are going to comment, talk, and write about him. Its something you give up once you become famous.

Also from what I've read the book paints Jobs in a mostly positive light, which actions like this are going to paint him in a control freak light.
#11 werejag on 29 Apr 2005 - 01:02
i didnt know the book existed but since apple has banned the book i must read this book and give away a few copies to the local libary.

i urge everyone to read this book and take this book as fact.

Apple stores won't stock my books either - including Degunking Your Mac and the upcoming Degunking Your Mac Tiger.
