Web giant Yahoo is developing a search engine for finding downloadable songs and music data from across the Internet, CNET News.com has learned.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company plans to introduce the music search engine within the next couple of months, according to a source familiar with the service. The specialty engine will let people search on an artist's name, for example, and retrieve all the available songs from other music services, as well as album reviews and band information from Yahoo Music.

Key features for the upcoming expansion pack:

  • Arena champions: Take the form of new exotic creatures, or fight as yourself, in battles for glory against other creatures or players.
  • New movement: Search for treasure and find adventure in new areas by climbing up and down walls for the first time in an MMO.
  • Voice-over emotes: Express yourself in a battle or expand your social circle with new voice emotes.
  • Guild vaults: Share the loot of a hard won battle with the rest of your guild members.
  • Level range increase: Now play up to level 60!
  • New land: Discover over a dozen new zones and epic encounters.
  • New creatures: Test your combat skills in battles with over 40 new fearsome creatures.

The info is rather vague, there is already a good site for song, artist, album searching

www.ubl.com (Ultimate Band List)

Im hoping Yahoo's is more feature full.

This just seems like an extension of the Launch database. Should be good.

An audio search engine will only be a breakthrough when you can search on lyric texts or sing in a part of the meoldy in your microfone and it would return the sonds with the closest match.

Remember how hard it is to find out a song's name if you only know a part of the melody. Well, sing it in and find the name

If that existed, it would be awesome
