Microsoft took part of its MSN Web site offline over the weekend, after it learned of a flaw that could let an attacker gain access to Hotmail accounts, the company said.

The MSN Web site, http://ilovemessenger.msn.com/, contained a so-called cross-site scripting flaw, a Microsoft representative said on Monday. In its initial review of the issue, the company found that an attacker could use the vulnerability to obtain "cookies" from Hotmail users by getting them to click on a malicious URL. That could then grant access to those e-mail accounts, the representative said.

You mean they've removed the crap from Messenger?

from mess be:

Almost simultaneously Messers Rawson, Paulio and Faz reported that their tabs and dashboard buttons (My Space and MSN Today) have gone missing. In addition, links to What I'm Listening To songs in their contacts' Personal Messages have become unclickable.

While all these changes can easily be effectuated using our well-known Mess Patch, the sudden, unintentional disappearance of these features probably indicate maintenance work performed by the MSN team.

If you're experiencing the same mysterious absence, don't worry that you did something wrong... everything will undoubtedly return shortly.

Silly MSN users. Tricks are for kids.

But seriously people: Stop using MSN and get yourself some real e-mail... the kind they bill you for.
You know the old saying: You get what you pay for. Did you think your "free" service was just as good as a real e-mail account from a real ISP (and no, I don't consider MSN to be a real ISP either).
Better yet, get yourself a Gmail acount and then you can't complain that it's too expensive.

Better yet, stick with my free account until they sort problems. Then I can chat, e-mail and blog, using Outlook or MSN messenger, or Win Messenger, or Webmessenger, or Gaim, or IE... for free.
I have other e-mail addresses too, but non that I pay for, waste of money.

You don't need an MSN or Hotmail account to use MSN Messenger. Strangely, not many people seem to be aware of this. What you need is a "passport", and ANY email address can be used as one.

So by your logic, gmail isnt a real email account? well its free like Hotmail isnt it?

Well I've been using Hotmail problem free for 3 years, with the same account. So I'm not gonna let some anti-MS whore tell me to switch to Gmail .

My 'real' email is my own ISP email. (And strangely, that is also Hotmail, in a way. But at least there's the 2 GB of storage )
