The recently announced VIA Technologies 2GHz C7-M embedded processor, which is manufactured on a 90nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) process, is expected to compete with the Intel Pentium M processor in the embedded market more so than in the mobile market, according to market sources.
Although VIA is targeting the notebook market with the VIA C7-M processor, the CPU may be more competitive in the mainstream embedded systems market, instead of for slim and light notebooks or Tablet PCs, the sources noted. The sources noted that the pricing for the C7-M may help VIA compete with Intel in the embedded market.
Intel introduced a complete solution for embedded systems using its mobile processors, including the Pentium M and Celeron M processors supported by the Intel E7520 and E7320 core-logic chipsets, at Computex 2005.
