Microsoft has launched a case against a German man believed to be the linchpin of a spam gang.

The software maker's legal complaint was lodged against an unnamed company in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany and its managing director, according to a statement (in German) on the Microsoft Germany Web site. Microsoft alleges that the company sent out millions of spam e-mail messages advertising Web site design services, online casinos and pornography.

It's good to see such a big company taking part in this. However, I do not understand the point of spamming other then to piss people off. There are so many programs made so it never reaches the user that it is almost pointless to spam. Oh well....if the programs don't catch, microsoft doesn't sue them to stop.....there is always the DEL button

Agree, spam is doing nothing else than pissing people off.. Spam is useless use of bandwidth. What kind of person could possibly be interested in what spammers offer? Get a life spammers

obviously stupid people. like those people who pay a hundred bucks extra for a "branded" bounce ball or whatever they call it

stupid people are everywhere, just read some of the stuff in fark.com

if its not profitable, then people wouldnt use that business/advertising method, simple as that

As much as I admire what M$ is trying to do here, I'd much rather see them focus on making spaming much harder to actualy do.
They need to work on getting a concensus with the industry-at-large on designing spam-proof e-mail schemes. An industry body for e-mail providers like the IEEE is for electronics manufacturers is what we need, not more litigation.
Very hard to do becasue everyone wants to cash in on fighing spam; they all seem to be too short-sighted to see that they'd all be better off if they worked together to fight spam.
