at the end of the year, gee would rather use adaware and spybot, does the trick .

I keep getting the 1.0.509 version from that link.
#11.1 tmaxxtigger on 23 Jun 2005 - 19:28
Yeah, the download is 1.0.613 though, they have not updated the text.
#11.2 Molgar on 23 Jun 2005 - 19:35
I also get 1.0.509

Note: taken from the Help>About just after installing.
#11.3 noll3095 on 23 Jun 2005 - 19:55
The link gave me 613, according to Help > About.
#11.4 hazart on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:02
1.0.509 for me as well
#11.5 joshpo on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:21
Are you folks who keep getting 509 using Firefox? Try with IE.
#11.6 IceDogg on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:36
I use Firefox and I got 613. So it doesn't matter which browser you use.
#11.7 hazart on 23 Jun 2005 - 21:16
Strange, strange, it is offering 613 now.
#11.8 Animatrix on 23 Jun 2005 - 21:35
I was sure it was the browser at first..but now i think the old program folder may have been to blame. I think i deleted the program folder ( out of habit i did not even think of it ) when i installed MSAS after having D/L it in IE.

Anyway all my attempts to reproduce the update failing has...well failed. Ok that's short of installing the old ver. and trying all over again, but im not going there now.

isnt this a resource hog?
#13.1 capeche on 23 Jun 2005 - 19:49
It probably didn't start out that way, but Microsoft's been working hard ever since they bought it to make it so!
#13.2 ripgut on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:02
For your computer maybe but it wasn't on mine.
#13.3 Porp on 23 Jun 2005 - 23:29
Maybe your computer. NOT mine for sure, or any of the number of computers that currently have Microsoft AntiSpyware installed. All of my school computers now do.

What's the difference between this app and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy?
Or doesn't this add any more feats and removal options?
#14.1 capeche on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:20
Well, MS's program is free, as the other two are. But it has constant monitoring, which Spybot doesn't and only the "pro" version of Adaware does. So I use it. It's kinda like antivirus software in that it continuously scans your system.

BUT I still keep Spybot and Adaware up to date to keep my system as clean as can be!
#14.2 ev0| on 23 Jun 2005 - 22:17
spybot has free constant monitoring, it's called "teatimer"

do a little more research next time
#14.3 asellus on 23 Jun 2005 - 23:35
Tea Timer is far too sensitive. TeaTimer will ask user confirmation even for a simple, valid registry modifications. Ad-Aware Pro and Microsoft Antispyware will only ask users confirmation if suspicious activity is detected. Tea Timer has to improve on this for it to be usable.
#15 Gowcra on 23 Jun 2005 - 20:39
i havent installed it yet, i was just asking if it was a resource hog mate
#16 smashguy on 23 Jun 2005 - 21:26
Excellent work!
(1 reply) #17 thenay on 23 Jun 2005 - 21:33
Wow, this program uses around 30mb of ram while being idle
Not that its a lot cos I have 1GB of ram but for users with 256mb thats kinda of a lot.
#17.1 Andareed on 23 Jun 2005 - 22:30
Most of that will be swapped out though.
#18 dezzo on 23 Jun 2005 - 22:08
If it's going to take them until the end of this year to complete it, then it must need a hell of a lot of work, because that seems like a long time!
#19 soldier1st on 23 Jun 2005 - 22:22
mcafee antispyware takes hardly any ram(less than 20)and it found more than ms did so i switched.
#20 chorpeac on 23 Jun 2005 - 23:00
it looks good to me...I appreciate the free realtime program right now.
#21 MEMO.INC on 23 Jun 2005 - 23:25
Thank god they fixed the "flying toast" bug. It was driving me nuts
#22 RomeoPlayer69 on 24 Jun 2005 - 00:31
Working fine here and thanx's for the news !

#23 MtDewCodeRedFreak on 24 Jun 2005 - 00:39
Anyone have this looping "spyware definitions 5727" being DLed and installed from Update?

Methinks a bug, perhaps.
#24 michelonia on 24 Jun 2005 - 03:10
I downloaded Ok but, when installing I get continuous errors. 10 downloads later, still not running. Why do they not turn on the update program option on the programs check for updates option itself?

Now did that make sense? Did to me. In any case I like the program and hope the fix the update method to the latest version of the software, instead of a seperate download and install alltogether!.

Always reinventing the wheel!

I don't understand how knowlegable tech people on boards like this even get spyware/adware. I haven't been infected in a couple years now at least. I do use a couple of apps every once in a while to scan including this one but no real time protection. Same with my av. Results are always clean.
#25.1 Cy Bones on 24 Jun 2005 - 12:10
All it takes is a careless / unknowledgable user on a shared machine...
#26 PUC_Snakeman on 24 Jun 2005 - 04:31
BUG (and fi:
To anyone getting the error where you click "Real-time Protection" and it says 18 agents running or 100 checkpoints active, but in reality doesn't show them properly or shows them disabled.... This is a bug with the Visual Basic dll's. Apparently, this program requires the latest/greatest VB6 runtime, but the installer doesn't check/install it.

So, the solution is to first close Microsoft Antispyware, then download and install Visual Basic 6.0 SP6 Run-Time Redistributable Pack from Microsoft... available by searching for "vbrun60sp6.exe" or by visiting --- HERE (Download at Microsoft) --- Then, when you power up Antispyware, it should show 59 checkpoints all on duty, and you should be able to actually SEE them, visible and enabled.

Good luck, and enjoy

Thanks for the news - Updating now
#28 mgorbach on 24 Jun 2005 - 13:14
Dont know about you guys ... but i like knowing that im protected, even if it is just in case. Same reason i run antivirus. With a powerful computers, its worth it to loose a tiny bit of memory to these for the sake of being OK if for some reason my judgment fails.
#29 Richardo on 24 Jun 2005 - 21:48
Can someone tell me when the previous beta version expires?
