- MSN Blows. v1 was good when it was just a messenger program. Now its joined the likes of ICQ which is full of bloated **** you don't need.

QUOTE I'm a lot smarter than the average neowiener
evidently whatever you're using as a self-gratifying replacement for IE doesn't have a spellchecker....that's pretty friggin smart. also as smart as wasting your time posting that crap to a windows-centric site, and equally (that's three syllables, sound it out) as smart as you're going to feel festering in your own ire at my lack of caring for capitals in a comment section. woe betide us fools and our follies! show us the way, svt!
now you can go back to SMS-ing your friends about the awesome rip you left on Neowin...man, i'd like to be a fly on the wall for that mensa conversation! u go hav fun now, kk?

- Apprently you can invite ppl, can you invite me, please
-
#6.2 Posted by Godzilla on 13 Jul 2005 - 08:36
- I don't see anywhere that you can invite other people... I dunno what this info is based on.
-
#6.3 Posted by ClintEastman on 13 Jul 2005 - 08:48
- It's based on the email you received and the fact that messenger BETAs let you invite friends and family, although saying that this is a small BETA (as in the length and the amount of tester) so it might not allow you in this one.
PS I'm invited!!
-
#6.4 Posted by Godzilla on 13 Jul 2005 - 10:22
- Oh man I completely missed that... not seeing anything on Connect about inviting other people yet though
-
#6.5 Posted by LPC on 13 Jul 2005 - 11:54
QUOTE If you are selected as a beta tester, you may be required to:
Download and install beta releases of MSN Messenger
Submit bug reports online
Participate in private beta newsgroups
Work directly with a product group engineer to investigate bugs
Complete periodic surveys
Invite your friends or family to participate with you
But it doesn't say how !!

- No one can invite you as no ones 'in' the BETA yet. They've just given the connect website their details and put in their key. Now they have to wait just like everyone so desperate for invites.
-
#18 Posted by JnCoKiLLa on 13 Jul 2005 - 08:56
- I like the connect site a better.
-
#19 Posted by xSuRgEx on 13 Jul 2005 - 09:03

- I don't use any of the new features in MSN 7. I was, kind of, forced to upgrade to MSNM 7 from MSNM 6.2. It kept asking me if I want to upgrade because there is a new version, there was also a check box, "Remind me in a week". I kept pressing it for weeks until it finally persuaded me to upgrade. Didn't find an option to turn it off. I am thinking about downgrading to Windows Messenger 5.0 or something else and getting rid of MSNM 7. I don't like the little text ads under the chat window and also don't like the way it kept pushing me to upgrade. There was only an option to postpone the reminder for a week and there wasn't a "Never ask me this question again" option.

- Once again, MSN is designed to connect people to other people and information, IT IS NOT CORPORATE STFU If you want corporate use Windows Messenger
-
#23 Posted by axious on 13 Jul 2005 - 09:29
- The thing that really annoys me now about MSN messenger...is the bloddy advert when you turn on the Webcam.
I don't need to see an advert telling me to get a webcam......I've alreay got one!!!!
I wish there wer a way to get rid of that.

- No-one can invite you, its not Gmail
And why exactly do you need it anyway? Somehow I wonder how deeply interested you are in the whole testing side of things. If your just wanting to get to use the build then just wait till it leaks....

- Why are some people complaining about "WTF? They just released a MSN 7 recently"
It's a new version to play around with
... at least for me.
Hope there's some new features to check out
-
#29 Posted by devyant on 13 Jul 2005 - 10:08
- Yeah, another improvement for current users or yet another attempt to increase MSNM users, whatever, I like the idea of a new version.
-
#30 Posted by p1xel on 13 Jul 2005 - 10:17
- Far too bloated for me,I'll take Miranda
Unless this version makes toast,hmmmm

It's not an open beta yet. -

QUOTE Although testers that are selected will be able to Invite their friends or family to participate with them.
-
#32.2 Posted by M/\TT on 13 Jul 2005 - 11:23
- Yes I know that but as the beta hasn't been started even the people in the beta can't yet invite anyone. Be patient everyone, it'll come soon enough.
-
#33 Posted by niktheguru on 13 Jul 2005 - 11:20
- to be fair, its only a 5-6 week beta, so its not gonna be a massive improvement on version 7. None of us beta testers have been confirmed yet, we have just logged into the nice microsoft connect site and put in our unique code. we are awaiting acceptance now, so WE CAN'T INVITE ANYONE!! (YET)

QUOTE ...will be able to Invite their friends or family to participate with them.
Hmmm... wonder where they got that idea?-
#46.1 Posted by DigitalThoughts2006 on 14 Jul 2005 - 23:44
- I think that the main idea of inviting others is so that they can invite people they know to use the new Messenger's features, otherwise they won't have anyone to test them out with, assuming there are new features, that is
.
Kind of like MSN Messenger 7 features (e.g. Winks & Nudges) don't work on 6.x versions....so v7.5's new features (if there are any) may not work on v7.0 or below.

-
#48 Posted by Cryptic_Night on 13 Jul 2005 - 12:46
- It's funny to see people craving invites yet it's a program and will be leaked anyways.
-
#49 Posted by xSuRgEx on 13 Jul 2005 - 13:16
- people will never learn to read a whole thread. its ur own fault if you now get lots of spam.
this is a beta test people not a joyride for download whores.

- It's amazing...it hasn't started yet. No one knows yet what actually is being tested, no one knows how the invite system is going to work or if it will be used AT all and yet how many people in here are already asking for invites that don't exist yet
! I am actually getting a good laugh out of this one. People, grow a little thing called paitent. -
#56.1 Posted by Spartan_X on 13 Jul 2005 - 15:58
- I don't see a problem with it; in the end this is what Microsoft wants... people with Passion for Customer, Partners and Technology.

I can see they all are trilled by the fact they can join other testers and make their opinion counts to make Microsoft products better. Unfortunately not everyone can be accepted to test products because the space is limited or the focus of most of the betas is different.
All I can say to the people wanting to join the group of beta testers is just to keep their enthusiasm and keep on trying, in time you’ll be called and you’ll have to chance to be part of the family…

-
#64.2 Posted by rm20010 on 14 Jul 2005 - 01:07
- ^ You're the one that needs to get a life if you think littering a comment section with email addresses is right.
Those that posted their email addresses are too blind to read this line:
QUOTE Although testers that are selected will be able to Invite their friends or family to participate with them.
No one's accepted (yet). And what part of 'friends or family' don't they understand? This isn't an opportunity to ask for invites publicly by posting your address in a PUBLICLY available comment section (although if you do it via PMs that's ok). -
#64.3 Posted by Aaryn Kasra on 14 Jul 2005 - 01:42
- Oh God no, the "comments section is *littered* with e-mail addresses!" I better report this atrocity right away, God forbid kids visiting a tech site would want to get into a beta program and not RTFA before replying... I should get a life

- You know whatever they add isn't gonig to be anything spectacular. Chances are it's either going to be more bloat, more ads or something that messenger plus already gives you.
