Harold Wong, Senior Technology Specialist, for Microsoft's TechNet division has posted on his blog that he expects a customer preview version of the upcoming Exchange 2003 SP2 to be released within 2 weeks.

Microsoft announced in June that Exchange Server 2003 SP2 would include Mobile e-mail improvements, Better protection against spam and Advanced mailbox improvements. Some of the mobile e-mail improvements relate to the latest Windows Mobile 5 advancements. With SP2, users of Windows Mobile 5 will receive push'd email similar to that of Blackberry devices currently in use by many large corporations worldwide.

Harold will post to his blog once the CTP is live :)

That is good to hear. It will be interesting to see how this will help MS compete with Blackberreis.

thank god, i have to many clients that are running up on the 16gb exchange information store barrier...

The update is just mailbox size limits, not the db limits.

If you have Enterprise, and the HDD space, then this will work for ya, but if it's just the Standard version, well... it's not gonna help, lol.

This will effect Standard users, as the mailbox store size is increased to 75 gigs. According to members of the Exchange blackbelts and product team.

I misread it then, thank God for that, 16gb limitations nowadays make no sense at all, with Information Technology expanding at it's current rate, even for small businesses.

Oh my, no more updates for Exchange2k? What a surprise.

Upgrade to 2k3? No thanks.

What's wrong with 2k3? It's a bit to setup, sure, because of AD, but I really like it over 2k and 5.5

Exchange 2003 is light years ahead of Ex2000. I run mine on a Windows 2003 server and the whole platform is practically maintenance free. There is no way I would go back to Ex2000. Looking forward to SP2 just so I have something to do on the server!!

ExCh2k3 is an excellent product, we upgraded 6 months ago... VERY pleased with the results, I would recommend it... This is great news...

there out already companies out there that do this beside Blackberry. Micrsoft is the next one to jump on board. I know of a company called Notify Technologies that does this already and much more that have customer worldwide. it just seems to not be advertised as well as MS and RIM.

Better protection against spam

Lets hope so, I'm having a hard time keeping spam at bay on the Exchange server I manage.

It should be noted - when talking about Spam - that SP2 features are the ONLY thing that MS uses internally against spam. More on anti-spam stuff here:
