MSN Messenger 7.5 Final - Build 0299

Advertisement (Why?)
Thanks to Larney for the heads up

The MSN Messenger team have just released version 7.5 of the client to the masses.

Among the new features are Dymanic Backgrounds and Voice Clips. Dynamic Backgrounds fill your MSN Messenger conversations and subtly animate during the conversation. Voice Clips allow you to send short audio clips (15 secs max) to your friends on MSN Messenger.

New audio improvements mean talking over MSN Messenger is far improved from recent versions.

You can also do the following:

Start a conversation with a contact: msnim:chat?contact=@hotmail.com
Add a contact to your contact list: msnim:add?contact=@hotmail.com
Send an invitation to start a voice conversation: msnim:voice?contact=@hotmail.com
Send an invitation to start a video conversation: msnim:video?contact=@hotmail.com

How about "allowing me to send EXE files to friends without having to hack any registries"?
#1.1 dolimite35 on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:45
would it be better just to zip up the files.
this protects people who still click-click anything and everything like a small kb .exe file that can do some nasty things
#1.2 nw_raptor on 23 Aug 2005 - 21:14
Then can we at least get an option to unblock .exe, .mp3 and others? Why do we have to hack files?
#1.3 tm™ on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:55
I hope you know how many less-intelligent people there are out there...
#2 LispyGlitter2 on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:36
whoo hoo! Glad to hear!

*waits for the mess.be patch* lol
7.5 got a bit more bloated from 7.0
#3.1 axious on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:50
Sounds about right! Messenger is just way too bloated now. riddled with adverts, you have to watch a 10-15 second advert for a webcam before you can use your own webcam How does that one work!

and they have the cheek to call Patchous software a adware!
Na, me thinks i'll stick with Trilian
#3.2 BBinder on 23 Aug 2005 - 20:01
well what do oyu expect you gotta give your pc time to connect to the other user so why not put an ad there
#3.3 axious on 23 Aug 2005 - 20:08
Well it used to connect within seconds before, now it is longer purely because of the advert no other reason.
#3.4 finalcoolman on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:28
That's why I use Windows Messenger
#3.5 Makeshift Hammer on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:59
That's what i use too. WinMess is much better. No ads, no silly searchboxes, no tabs, no this, no that. Just the pure necessities.
#3.6 denzilla on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:57
LOL...I tried MSN Mess a couple of weeks ago and felt like I had downloaded a never ending commercial. Would be nice if they offered a pay, ad-free version for like 10 bucks.
#3.7 drocnor on 24 Aug 2005 - 01:08
If you don't fancy applying patches (though MsgPlus does rock) here's how you can get rid of the ads yourself:
Removing the adverts from MSN Messenger 7.5

#5 rIaHc3 on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:41

#6 dolimite35 on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:43
website shows weird in firefox and opera. IE a-okay my friend
#7 Hypoxiaicon on 23 Aug 2005 - 19:43
Still hase the video conversation bug. MSN Messenger BETA Feedback @ connect.microsoft.com reported it as fixed by a code change.

If firefox is set as the default browser and you are participating in a video conversation, messenger will crash if you attempt to single-click on a link sent to you by any of your contacts, not specifically the one that you are having the video conversation with.

Omg.... Stupid MSN .... hope A-Patch is out soon. I hate how they keep stealing all of msgplus's ideas. They make it so Microsoft Antispyware marks msgplus as spyware then they steal his ideas.. really pisses me off. and I thought 7.0 was ban.. 7.5 IS HORSE MANURE!!! Im going back to gaim.
DIE MSN!

i want to know why no beta testers were told about this....

after they released build 0244 they just totally stopped listening to the problems if they weren't major
#22.1 DJ Prem on 23 Aug 2005 - 21:34
I agree + we were not even informed that it is final
#22.2 Th3-0n3 on 23 Aug 2005 - 21:43
I'm not a beta tester myself but I'm a bit surprised that they released the final already. Some days ago I read on mess.be that the pages on messenger.msn.com for the public beta were online for a bit. So I thought that a public beta would be released before the final.

Maybe it has something to do with Google launching an IM service soon?
#22.3 lbmouse on 25 Aug 2005 - 13:04
^ It probably does. Yesterday, over half the people in my MSN Messenger list activated Google Talk.
#23 Chanser on 23 Aug 2005 - 21:34
Could try Mastaline MSN 7 Universal patcher.
#24 slimy on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:04
stupid idiots, they released it way too early.
#25 i like chips on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:18
DAMMIT, where's that a-patch?? I almost forgot about all that bloat. My GOD microsoft, screw off with all the CRAP no one ever uses.
#26 Chrysalis on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:20
I get the feeling they rushed it out, and judging by the comments from the beta testers there is a few unpatched bugs left in place.
#27 Marduk on 23 Aug 2005 - 22:33
I'm confused by this 15-second voice clip stuff, how is it different than being able to simply use your mic to chat? or did they nerf that long ago and I'm just missing out?

#31 sholmes1 on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:02
What happend to the File Sharing Activity that was on version 7.0 that I could never get to work? It always crashed.

I guess if you can't fix it....remove it.

(1 reply) #32 lunamonkey on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:04
Any way to get this working on Win2K, 7.0 is working fine but this errors on install saying I need Xp.
#32.1 Zaarin on 24 Aug 2005 - 03:28
7.5 doesn't work in anything less than - quoting the program manager "XP Gold" - maybe XP SP2? Never heard the "gold" term.

Apparently to remove some of the bloat. From now on, all new messenger releases will be for XP and above only.
#33 sholmes1 on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:08
Voice between 7.5 and 7.0 does not work. I tried talking to someone that has Win98 and MSN 7.0 and it can't connect via voice now. I guess have to wait until 7.5 is avail for Win98. We get a "Your invitation to start a Voice Conversation cannot be delivered to...."
#34 Unwonted on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:15
I hope they release that A-Patch/Mess Patch soon so some of you can dry your tears and/or take some high blood pressure medication. Geez...it's just a messaging client. Relax.
#35 BigCheese on 23 Aug 2005 - 23:19
Wow. This is a load of rubbish. When build 244 came out, I thought I'd wait till the next version, because it was a bit buggy.
But this version doesn't even work. After a fresh restart, it works fine, but then crashes shortly after. If I then start MSN Messenger again and try to open a conversation window, the windows becomes invisible and I can't see anything.
Also, after signing in successfully, the sign in page just stays there and doesn't change to the contacts list.

This is just unacceptable, and they've just made it much worse. I can't wait till Google Im comes out tomorrow, maybe that will be better.
(1 reply) #36 djtaylor on 24 Aug 2005 - 00:04
Anyone care to try my own version? No bloatware and it's certainly a lot more stable than their POS. I'm looking for more testers too, if anyone would like to help?

http://www.djtsoft.com/software.php?id=msngr

Brief feature list:
- Sign in with mutliple accounts
- VERY fast sign in (compared to Messenger 6/7 - they take bloody AGES!!)
- Rename contacts
- Resumable file transfers
- No ActiveX crap for 3rd party apps to plug into (security)
- Date/time stamp for each message
- Delivery reports
- Helps prevent worms that spread via Messenger

Why do I need the .NET Framework? Will Dave's Messenger work without it?
Dave's Messenger is written in Visual Basic .NET 2003. Any program written in this language requires the .NET Framework 1.1 or higher. In other words, it will not work without it! There is nothing I can do about this, short of writing it in another language (such as C++).

I can help test if you want. I can also help rewrite the code in C++ if you don't know how or for maximum speed and size, x86 asm.

HEY! the clock is correct on this build on the Clock Dynamic Background ...wicked.... build 244 or even 162 didn't have the right time only bad thing now is that Blue Mountain makes us pay for the Dynamic BG's ... before they were all free
#37.1 net-cruizer on 24 Aug 2005 - 07:36
Build 0244 had the same clock background and it worked.

#42 Sticktron on 24 Aug 2005 - 03:35
Strange how they sort of forgot about us beta testers. I had unresolved issues posted, as did many people. No "thanks for testing, final is out now" nothing.

........... NOT FOR WIN 98! Screw this! i was looking forward to it just with the glimps of hope that it would finally make my laptop work with msn, i cant use msn 7.0 cause some DDL files messed, and i cant use 6.2 cause it wont let me sign in without updating =_=

I'm getting sick of this, STILL getting error message 80048820... Someone MUST know how to fix this!?

v7 and previous all work fine, but 7.5 doesn't and it's starting to tick me off :@
#47.1 myxamatosis on 24 Aug 2005 - 09:15
Messenger Plus! 3.54.132 is causing these connection problems... kill your "msgplus.exe" and "msnmsgs.exe" processes in task manager and restart Messenger 7.5!

Messenger Plus! v3.54.135 beta (leaked) should be used with Messenger 7.5
#47.2 Stew Gilray on 24 Aug 2005 - 14:48
Cheers for that...

One small problem, I don't have Mess+ installed, and NEVER have had it installed.

Thanks though, at least you offered a decent reason for the problem, even if it's not correct in this case.

Appreciated.

The MSN Messenger team have just released version 7.5 of the client to the masses.

So Tom, they released MSN Messenger 7.5 to the Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, Cubans, Iranians, Libyans, etc? The American people are free people, and never in the history of freedom has it been appropriate to refer to free people as the masses. Please watch your choice of words in the future. Certain words can be very offensive given the circumstances, such as "the masses" in reference to the American people.
