- That sounds more like Ebonics than "country" talk (and this is coming from someone from Mississippi).

- I don't get this, we can get screenshots of the version of MCE after Emerald, but we can't get one itty bitty screenie of Emerald. Weird.

- I hope they fix a number of outstanding bugs with this new release.
Don't get me wrong ... MCE is a fantastic product, they ease of use is the best thing about it. Even my Mam can use it without any problems.
Keep up the good work Microsoft.

- that looks a very untidy, I prefer the current look, MS shoudl leave the look alone and work on features, IE multiple tuners of differnt sources.

- Agreed. I love MCE as it is now, and am not updating to this ater what I see here.

- Still it doesn't look that good.
It won't change much, beta means there are some bugs, not that the gui is developement.
Otherwise MS doesn't leak screenshots. -

What are you talking about? MS is very well known for changing the GUI during beta. Ask anyone int he XP beta. In addition, this was a CTP, not officially in a beta build. -

And it is still ugly. If we were to take you seriously, nobody could comment on this because it isn't RTM.

- Forgive me for being dense but what exactly is meant by DVD Changer support. Is that to mean controling DVD Changer hardware such as Sony 400 disc units? Or is it to mean controlling optical archive DVD units such as those made by powerfile?
regards,

A number of comments on Microsoft public Windows Media Center newsgroups point towards the fact OEMs (Acer, HP etc) customer support are informing Media Center owners to expect the update in mid october. Unfortunately in tonight's monthly Media Center Chat, Todd Bowra (Program Manager, Media Center Extender) stated "we cannot comment on unannounced products, and in some cases may not be able to discuss specific aspects of announced products. This chat is primarily to discuss questions or issues with our current products.".
It's likely that if the update is due in October that it will be released on Patch Tuesday (11th October). This will mean the update could filter down to PCs for November. Exciting stuff.
Gemstones you say? Vista MCE
This week Microsoft revealed the future of the Media Center interface, well, part of it anyway. In the September Community Technology Preview build of Vista (5219) the Ultimate Edition features some elements of MCE. We've had a play around with the features and you can take a look at the interface below. Unfortunately (thanks Hauppauge) we couldn't get the TV working correctly due to lack of drivers. Vista MCE codenamed Diamond will feature heavily in Beta 2 due year end.
