is there a Project 2003 Service Pack 2?
#5.1 capeche on 27 Sep 2005 - 17:29
If you go to Microsoft Update (and not Windows Update), it'll give you the SP2 updates you need. You can click on MORE INFO for the Project 2003 SP2 one, and it'll give you a link. I can't figure out how to copy that link here, though, so sorry!

Official instructions for MS Service Pack installation:

1. Download SP2 (apx time: 374 hours).
2. Find downloaded program and run.
3. Restart computer.
4. Wait for system to freeze up.
5. Press ctrl+Alt+Del and select Shut Down.
6. Kick dog while waiting for computer to re-start.
7. Chew finger nails while you watch setup program making mysterious "registry changes".
8. Punch wall and break hand when you see BSoD.
9. Locate a child aged 3 through 12 and say, "(Name of child), please help me install this SP2 on my computer."
10. After re-starting the computer (again), you will hear grinding and whirring noises for a very long time while the installation program does God knows what in there. Some MS installation programs can actually alter molecular structures, so that when they're done, your computer has been transformed into an entirely new device, such as a food processor.
At the very least, the MS installation program will create many new directories, sub-directories, sub-sub-directories, on your hard drive and fill them with thousands of mysterious files with names like "puree.exe," "fester.dat," and "doo.wha." Most of these file have little or no purpose except to take up hard drive space.
11. Wait until MS install program says that it will now examine your system to see what would be the best way to render it inoperable. Is it OK with you? Choose one, and be honest:
+-----++-------+
| YES | | SURE |
+-----++-------+
12. Re-start computer (AGAIN).
13. Wait for boot sector not found error.
14. Throw computer out window.
15. Go here and buy a new one.
#7.1 father dagon on 27 Sep 2005 - 16:50
Or, you could just do what I did and slipstream it into the Office install files which I keep stored on an external USB drive, then run the newly updated install from there. Slipstreaming and update took 5 minutes at most, and thats after two wrong-path typos on my part. No reboot. Outlook 2003 SP2 running right now.

Way to have NO IDEA what you're talking about. Fanboys are one thing; ignorant Linux fanboys are a whole new obnoxious breed. Now go compile something, if you know how...
#7.2 Skyfrog on 27 Sep 2005 - 17:03
lbmouse, your post wasn't amusing. It was incredibly stupid though, and completely inaccurate. This isn't even an OS service pack; if you are going to troll at least try to know what you are trolling about first. As for trying to sell people on Linux, making up ridiculous lies isn't the best way to go about it.
#7.3 Zero1 on 27 Sep 2005 - 17:32
Exactly Skyfrog... The trolls on this site are becoming ridiculous.
I have copied the install files to my server's hard disk and deployed it from there to 4 workstations in under 20 mins...
#7.4 lbmouse on 27 Sep 2005 - 18:31
Calm down there junior... not trolling or fan boying. Just copied a joke that made the email circuit a few years ago. You need to take a step back and realize that people have different senses of humor... not selling Linux. If I was, I'd have to mention what this site is running. .
#7.5 xxdesmus on 27 Sep 2005 - 18:52
wow you're pretty funny. Go troll some where else.
#7.6 father dagon on 27 Sep 2005 - 18:53
Yes, doing exactly what linux should be doing; running a server, unseen, where people don't have to pay it any mind. However, this is an article about an Office Suite, of which linux is sorely lacking any decent alternative. On the desktop...linux is for people too cheap to buy an Apple.
#7.7 protoss_chaos on 27 Sep 2005 - 19:16
Troll...
#7.8 lbmouse on 27 Sep 2005 - 19:35
Linux, like Mac OS X, Windows, Office suites are just tools. It is not a frickin' religion. Lighten up kiddies. father dragon, I like this spoof of an Apple "user":

A mallicious joke is just mallicious when you say it all the time

Given your blantant bias against Microsoft and the fact that you constantly have to defend yourself for making comments like this, perhaps you should reconsider making them.

Especially when one considers the amount of time lbmouse has no doubt spent plucking all that out, and finding links to little movies to post...and .wmv movies, no less.

@7: While I would like to say you're trolling, I did laugh a bit.

Did that joke come from Dave Barry's 'Dave Barry in Cyberspace'? (Numbers 9 - 11 are exactly the same here and in the book.)

Yea and the news comments section is the perfect place for the joke right?

Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003 Phishing Protection and Junk E-mail Filter

SP2 contains a new Phishing Protection feature to be used with the Outlook Junk Email Filter. Phishing is the luring of sensitive information through e-mail, such as passwords and other personal information, by an attacker masquerading as someone trustworthy. Phishing attacks can result in a user divulging sensitive information, including financial information, that can result in a loss of privacy or money. Phishing e-mail is hard to identify, because attackers make their e-mail appear genuine and often mimic recognizable e-mail sent out routinely by legitimate organizations such as banks and credit card companies.

To enable phishing protection, you need both Office 2003 SP2 and the latest Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter Update. Once both are installed, Office 2003 SP2 has phishing protection turned on by default.

For best results, we recommend you regularly download the latest version of the Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter Update. To determine whether you need this update, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (872976): How to obtain the latest Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter.

I have never double-posted in the 8 years I have used computers and the Internet. Fix your system, browser and/or connection.
#9.2 Skyfrog on 27 Sep 2005 - 17:07
Neowin is having problems today; It may look like a post hasn't gone through even though it has, and hitting submit again of course causes you to double post. I've done it myself.

for office sp2 why would you want the smaller one instead of the bigger one?because if you installed sp1 then the client would be for you?
#13.1 Skyfrog on 27 Sep 2005 - 20:27
Yes. The smaller one only installs the updates you need. If you already have SP1 and some hotfixes installed there's no need to download them all again.

Is 145MB a correct size? I'm doing the update via microsoft update and automatic download option?
#14.1 DELTA75329 on 27 Sep 2005 - 20:23
That's about what I had to download. Didn't take more than 10 minutes and it installed without a hitch.
#14.2 rbet on 27 Sep 2005 - 23:27
I tried manually connecting to OfficeUpdate and it tells me that my Office products are up to date. However, when I click Help>About in any Office application, it shows SP-1.

What's the difference between:
Client-ENU.exe
FullFile-ENU.exe

?
#21.1 macstorm on 28 Sep 2005 - 06:18
Use Client installation if you have access to your original Office 2003 CD, otherwise use FullFile install. (or if you have problems with Client install)

Auto-installation via OfficeUpdate Online ok
