#20 Posted by Mx² on 08 Oct 2005 - 10:10
- I won nothing, and surprise suprise, looks like some winners are people who just joined for competition.
-
#20.2 Posted by tiagosilva29 on 08 Oct 2005 - 14:10
- Erm... no, but we all know that this is quite unfair.
-
#20.3 Posted by BOOGSoftball on 08 Oct 2005 - 14:29
- Exactly how is it unfair?
-
#20.4 Posted by sumeet on 08 Oct 2005 - 15:00
- Its unfair to the people that have stuck around neowin for 3+ years. All of the people that joined were just for the competition. They're not really apart of the community. They're just outsiders trying to take prizes away from people who actually belong to the community.
-
#20.5 Posted by Rekoil on 08 Oct 2005 - 15:07
- i agree, not that im a very active member but im definetly more active than people who join just for competitons, as they are not active at all
-
#20.6 Posted by Zirus1701 on 08 Oct 2005 - 15:56
- This is where post count should come in. or at least your join date.
They should make the competition open only to members who registered BEFORE the competition opened. And members who were active... I dunno... in the last month or so. That would confine it more to our community. -
#20.7 Posted by tiagosilva29 on 08 Oct 2005 - 15:57
- This is not about post count.
This is about logic.
Some of them joined for one or both of these reasons:
A) The infamous "OMG I WANT 30GIGA EMAIL PLZ INVITE ME"
B) The Neowin Giveaway
That's the reason they don't have any or just 1 post.
Even if they posted once, it was deleted, because the 30Gigs email thread was removed.
Again: is it fair?
Nay I say. -
#20.8 Posted by BOOGSoftball on 08 Oct 2005 - 16:25
- I am simply amazed at your attitude.
Perhaps we should not give anything away next time.
Please, people....take a step back and look at how you are acting over all this. Seriously. -
#20.9 Posted by tiagosilva29 on 08 Oct 2005 - 16:54
- Erm... in the way the people that gave away prizes should look?
I really don't give a damn if I did received anything, because I wanted give stuff away. (>_>
The problem with this is that you cannot purge/select people from the listing, because the list is too big.
(Well... the banned ones can be put away easily...)
I would be glad to offer things to the members of my community, but, only to the ones that are Neowinians.
Bottom line:
Is it okay for them to receive the prizes? Yes, according to the rules.
Is it fair? No, but rules are rules. -
#20.10 Posted by sumeet on 08 Oct 2005 - 17:00
- Well you have a contest at work, and a guy just applies and gets a job there just for the contest. then he Wins the prize, and never shows up for work again. how would you feel?
-
#20.11 Posted by BOOGSoftball on 08 Oct 2005 - 17:24
- No skin off my back. The contest was for everyone who entered. Period. Getting upset over that makes you look rather silly.
-
#20.12 Posted by dolimite35 on 08 Oct 2005 - 18:05
- I wonder if the people who complaining now would have won, would they still complain about people just joining for the gifts?
or post "YEA I WON" and not care because they won. -
#20.13 Posted by Shadrack on 08 Oct 2005 - 21:25
- the point of a random drawing like this is to raise the popularity of neowin. New members registered just for the hope of winning something. Sounds like it was pretty successful then.
-
#20.14 Posted by ripgut on 08 Oct 2005 - 21:59
- Congratulations everyone! i don't see the point in saying it is unfair, dude its just the internet.
-
#20.15 Posted by Pliskin on 08 Oct 2005 - 22:43
- Yeah, contests should be eliminated. Look at these PO-ed kids that can't handle losing.
-
#20.16 Posted by tiagosilva29 on 08 Oct 2005 - 23:27
- ^ Oh yes, if you only knew what you're talking about...
>I am one of the people who wanted to add something to the bloody draw but were too late for that.<
I wanted to give you something, not to take it from you.
But I'll never hand out items to guys that would just say "cool, see ya".
And no, rip, that's just not valid, since my money was on the line.
And yes, even if I have won something, I would still aim at those guys.
I'd even give the award to Neowin back to Neowin (I don't want hosting, blog things, games and all of that, for example), because I am so worried about the prizes...
Sure, draws are cool to advertise the community but, with what cost?
To have buckloads of phantom accounts?
To give my items to a phantom? No thanks.
That's my opinion.

- if you all owned and operated a web site.. and held a contest, would you not want people to sign up for the contest?
this is a tradition by neowin, and also away for people to get involved in the community. and you know what? there are Guests that visit this forum daily, and NEVER ever signed up, and now have taken that step into doing that. so for the love of god.. get over it!
-
#21 Posted by Orange on 08 Oct 2005 - 10:11

#28 Posted by Raa on 08 Oct 2005 - 10:22
- I Claim BS!
I think there was bias and I deserved a prize.
I demand an immediate recount, and I want a neutral judge on the panel!
....... Okay, I was kidding. But how do we know the "script" was genuine?
Next time I think there should be a favorable option for people that have been either active members, or long-term members.
Ppl that "just join" for the compo should be excluded, or on a lower "chance" or something :|

#28.1 Posted by

- Oh come on. We're giving stuff away for free here- have a little gratitude.
-
#28.2 Posted by Raa on 08 Oct 2005 - 15:33
- Allright, If you wish...
I'm very grateful that I even got to enter....
Like others have said, rigged, or something.
Im not a sore loser, but I feel a tad more ... "Requirement" would have been more beneficial to neowin and it's members really.
Congrats to all those that won prizes either way. You either deserved them, or got plain as lucky and should be shot!!! (take your pick, lol
) -
#28.3 Posted by ThunderRiver on 08 Oct 2005 - 16:44
- Raa, are you being cheap or something?
When I signed up, I never had any expection that I would win anything. The chance is just too slim and just be glad it requires no money to participate.
On the other hand, if I want something, I will just get it myself.. I suppose you are less fortunate becuase you are cheap.

- Congrats to all of the winners. I just so happen to be one of the winners of the 10x SP-01 hosting packaged (from Frank). I really don't have a need for a hosting package, so I either not use it or just put up some "play" site. Anyway, I would be more than willing to either trade prizes or GIVE my prize away to the first person to PM me (Subject to me changing my mind, of course)... that is, if that is allowed by the rules of the contest. Could a Neowin mod. or contest "official" comment on this?

There should have been some conditions on entry like being a member for at least a month and being an active member with over 100 posts -
#50.3 Posted by spex04 on 08 Oct 2005 - 12:12
- The nano winner didn't have 1 post, he has 800+, and has been here from '02.

- How come everyone demands "fairness"? it's a bleedin' lottery for crying out loud. It's not supposed to be fair, it's supposed to be random.
I can't believe people are whining about stuff like this.. The Neowin staff have no obligation to do these things, so we should applaud them for arranging it at all, in my opinion.
Some people are never satisfied.

PM the staff member who has arranged a prize for this give away, and we'll get whatever you've won to you as soon as possible. If there is no staff name listed with a prize, send a PM to me (Neobond). You have one week to claim your prize, after which we cannot guarantee external companies will honor late claims.
