As big and as important as Microsoft is, the coverage of the company is quite mediocre. This is particularly true in the mainstream press. The reason for this is that today's newspaper and magazine tech writers know little about computers and are all Mac users. It's a fact. This is why when Microsoft actually does have a good idea, people look to trash it out of hand. With 90 percent of the mainstream writers being Mac users, what would you expect?
The top columnists in the news and business magazines fit this model too. The technology writers fit this model. The tech writers and tech columnists for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and Fortune are all Mac users. I could list them by name, but I'd hate to leave one out. Maybe I'll blog them by name. I could list 50. Readers should thus not be surprised by the overcoverage of Apple Computer. Every time Steve Jobs sneezes there is a collective chorus of "Gesundheit" from tech writers pounding away on their Macs.

please, os system 1 had widgets back in the 80's, nothing new there. instant searching aka spotlight, yea that was a major part of tiger's development, a key feature in the earliest of builds well before m$ announced lh would have it. THEN the rest followed with their reincarnations.
as for the video ipod and front row (which is not a media center pc do some research, its simply an media application layer program part of the iMac, not a new product) im not saying they are new ideas but the video ipod gets covered more because it did what the ms product did just in the same popular package as the previous ipods came in. its not always the innovation though apple seems to be good at that, but in this case it is simply popularity. the media covers the new iPod becuase the iPod is the most popular player on the market. if microsoft had the most popular player on the market and a new version came out, it would be covered equally. as for the new imac g5, well i havent seen anything in the media about it, unless you read macworld... Apple is covered because it is the underdog, they are innovators in some sectors, in others they take ideas that flopped and make them better. Its not biased, its simply covering the underdog company, the company that the market is excited about. when vista is nearing completion next year, then m$ will have its spotlight back. but until then, share the stage and stop crying...
again, i am sorry for coming of with that attitude, im just pissed that this is actually on the front page of neowin and well its just a bit infuriating. to me the article is just wining that is unwarrented.
