Google have opened up the library doors to their beta “Google Print” service. Whilst questions still remain as to how Google will tackle the topic of copyrighted material it seems as though they have at least started scanning books in, with Government papers and American Civil War books being the first to be entered into the system.

Google unveiled Google Print over a year ago now, but ran into legal problems, they are hoping to quickly expand the service using some of the main US Universities. The main aim is to start uploading books that have stopped being printed or are not copyrighted, then it is up to Google what other areas they explore.

Looking good google, looking good!
I'm not sure how often I'll use it, still need to get used to it a bit. But it'll most likely change anyway .. They'll get sued and stuff.

You can only view 3 pages then the next page arrow is broken?

It's only three pages. What's everyone so worked up about? I could see three pages before it was "released" as well.

hmm... apparently by doing a very well worked out search you can get... some more pages.

I got only several pages here too.
If I can find more through a improved search, I think the problem does not focus on Google but those universities as well.

you can only see a few pages of the book depending on your search. its a good thing and it makes it really easy to find material in a book before you take the time to go to the library... and if you find what you need then you have most of the book info and you can just cite it in your research papers without ever having to step foot in a library. amazon.com allows you to look through more of the front of the book though... like the first 20 pages or something.

Very very very good. I'm already in love with it. So easy to find books relevent to what I want before buying, since Amazon only offers this on .com and not .co.uk yet.

for most book you can only view a few pages but for example for this book (it is a book of info rather than a work of fiction) you can view all pages http://print.google.com/print?hl=en&id=QlE...a5anYEsC&pg=PA1

It's just a matter of time before Google release the whole book for everyone. When the libraries are close and you need a specific book for your work... guess where you will be searching ?
