ATI ISSUED a cheerful press release which publicly claimed a heavy price reduction on the new X1600 series. As of now, the new Radeon X1600XT with 256 Megs of GDDR-3 video memory is priced at $179 or Euro, down from $249/Euro. This is a big dent in price and lowering itself under Nvidia's radar named 6800GS, which demolished the Red Team's board in previous reviews.

Now, the product is somewhat equally priced to GeForce 6600GT with 256 Megs of GDDR-3 memory, which are rare as hen's teeth. However, we hear news of Nvidia's new MSRP of $199/Euro for its 6800GS, in both AGP and PCIe version, whenever the AGP version arrives. The lower part of mainstream market is covered by the new Radeon X1600Pro, which is available for 129 dollars/Euros if the model is equipped with 256MB of DDR-II memory.

Wonder how much these cards will cost when DX10 specs are released and cards are DX10... would like to get a 6800 still, because that's really all the power I'd ever need for just tinkering around with directx

"that's reall all the power I'd ever need"

never has one been so wrong since Bill Gates said 640K memory was more than anyone ever needed!

Actually, he never said that.

I read an article about common quotations, and how lots of them were never said, or were horribly out of context. . It included that one.

He said "that's really all the power I'd ever need for tinkering with DirectX" which I assume is programming. So a 6800 would be fine.

took that one way out of context with your selective quoting

wow sometimes i think people need to think before they post... I just tinker with directx aka mess around with basic objects and effects and some animation... i dont game... so for me that is all that I would need! im not saying thats all the world would ever need *rolls eyes*

So, does this mean the x1800 will come down in price as well, or just the x1600?
