Say Goodbye to 'Intel Inside'

Advertisement (Why?)
Intel Inside, the tag line that Intel has been using for the past 16 years, appears to be on its way out, according to reports.  If the reports are true, Intel is ready to roll out a new identity the first week of January to coincide with a new advertising campaign.  While rumors of this have been circulating since November, little else had been said until this point.

The Intel Inside logo was first introduced way back in 1991, when a PC in your home was something like a Porsche in your driveway.  Since then, love them or hate them, "Intel Inside" has become one of the most recognizable trademarks worldwide.

There goes the hilarity of my "AMD Inside" Logo.
#1.1 heffe2001 on 28 Dec 2005 - 00:08
You SHOULD have gotten the 'AMD Instead' logo, much better IMO :p.
#1.2 hotdog963al on 28 Dec 2005 - 00:58
I'd say... Just as good.
#1.3 MrCobra on 28 Dec 2005 - 05:20
@heffe2001:

I totally agree with you.
#1.4 imtoomuch on 28 Dec 2005 - 05:53
Way to start the AMD fanboy parade! I still do not get why mods refuse to do their jobs and edits posts like some of those above. This is the reason that fanboys run rampant on this site - because they are not disciplined and edited.

Anyway, back to the news story. Intel Inside was a catchy ad campaign and I think it's kind of dumb to kill it off. It will definitely be hard to come up with a better ad campaign.
#1.5 MrCobra on 28 Dec 2005 - 10:54
Fanboy? No. I agreed with someone who stated an opinion in reply to "There goes the hilarity of my "AMD Inside" Logo. " You did see the IMO in the comment heffe2001 left?

#1.1: Cyrix would sue the hell out of AMD if they used that

"Apple Outside"?
#2.1 Syphonic on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:51
Heh exactly what I thought.

We all know there's no way in hell Apple are going to let them stick one of those stickers on the Macs lol
#2.2 crimsonhead on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:30
They could write it in glow in the dark invisible ink. Just imagine how sweet that would look
#2.3 AMDMEFX-55 on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:49
Huh why you don't think they would put a simple sticker on a mac but put a intel cpu is beyond me.
#2.4 Adequate on 29 Dec 2005 - 03:42
To #2:
Fanboy...

Aw...that means I won't have to rip the stickers off and spend about an hour trying to get the glue residue off anymore. Break my heart...
#3.1 s0nic69 on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:17
ur still going to have to, they are just going to replace it with another sticker i think: " If the reports are true, Intel is ready to roll out a new identity the first week of January to coincide with a new advertising campaign.". New identity? i think that means a new sticker. Im going to miss the intel inside sticker.
#3.2 heffe2001 on 28 Dec 2005 - 00:10
Jeez, an hour? Just pull the label off, and use what sticky is left on it to remove what's left on the PC. MUCH cleaner than trying to wipe it off, leaves NO residue, and takes like 30 seconds...

Love it or hate it, this was a brilliant marketing gimmick by Intel. Despite AMD's lower power consumption and better performance, people still want Intel in their computers. Intel's marketing and "jingle" has consumers convinced that Intel is THE premium brand to have and they will pay more to have it.
#4.1 one321 on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:11
Very true
#4.2 lbmouse on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:26
It's the power of marketing to drive quantity over quality... same reason why McDonald's sells more burgers than a decent burger joint and MS distributes more copies of their OS than other better quality systems.
#4.3 d4t4b0mb on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:32
Lets not forget the iPod, shall we? Or is that the exception to that little argument?

Also, as far as AMD goes, for many of us that have been using computers for quite awhile, it's more to due with AMD products being utter crap in the past, and made doubly-so by being crippled with shoddy chipsets. Only in the past few years have they really come up to par.

OT: the editing functions of this forum really suck since the upgrade.

What seriously surprises me is that they only used it for processors. Why didn't they use it for....

1. Mainboards (they are one of the leading mainboard suppliers after all these years, and this was considered a *loss leader* for Intel)?

2. Ethernet cards (along with 3Com, Intel is among the last of Ethernet's Original Old Men, and the ONLY one other than 3Com to still sell complete NICs)?

I was actually thinking of a print ad for NICs back when Intel first launched the "Intel Inside" blitz...where the print said "Intel, the Network (with computer crossed out) Inside."

Yeah back in the day "Intel inside" meant something else, after you payed thru the teeth to get there chip...lmao

at last!

I can't stand that "ding ding ding ding" on adverts -_-
#6.1 rm20010 on 27 Dec 2005 - 18:24
Take that sound, and add Homer's 'D'OH!' to the end of it. Makes me laugh each time I hear it.

Hate that sound as much as you want, but that's a good example of establishing a catchy sound to associate a company with.
#6.2 Jaxkesa on 28 Dec 2005 - 00:48
I know, I hate the way they stop the whole advert, do the Intel ding ding thing, and then carry on again. It's so annoying I have to turn over.
#6.3 tiagosilva29 on 29 Dec 2005 - 01:58
Intel's Dings should be banned forever.
#7 mohan_168 on 27 Dec 2005 - 19:10
Intel Outside !
AMD Inside! give them a killer punch
#8 eSauce on 27 Dec 2005 - 19:21
this was one marketing idea that I thought would last forever
#9 plastikaa on 27 Dec 2005 - 19:55
who says its a goodbye? all it means is they have found a better more annoying way to make you remember their product!

So they're still using the "...inside" gimmick?
#11.2 meamog on 28 Dec 2005 - 00:27
it's not a gimmick, it's a slogan. and a pretty memorable one at that.
#11.3 s0nic69 on 28 Dec 2005 - 04:20
yeah it is memorable, but i dont like the new one, why change something that everyone knows, and "loves" already. Thanks for posting the new stickers.
#11.4 domgrimm on 28 Dec 2005 - 09:18
Oh, I didn't mean it in a bad way, I just couldn't think of the right word to put there

Seems that all of the people above don't like INTEL or the processors it creates. You don't have to buy them you know. Go and buy all your Apple Macs and AMD processors if you want, but INTEL is out there to make a profit, as most other companies are, and they have been very successful thus far. Quite often the difference in two comparable chips actual power (AMD and INTEL) is very little at all. You will hardly notice it during usuage, and the only people who real care about the extra 3 or 4 clock cycles are the cyber-geeks who get their highs from playing online-shooters at night and looking at porn. The normal, average consumer has come to trust INTEL, not only because of their advertising and word of mouth, but also because of the reliablity of their processors. I am certain that some people will dispute this claim, but on the whole INTEL have created more reliable processors. The 'Intel Inside' branding has become a byword for reliability and trust in computing. I cannot imagine that INTEL will be so quick to completely ditch something that has servered them so well in the past. These are rumours after all.
#12.1 Buttus on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:10
Actually, the only thing 'Intel Inside' ever meant to me is that the person spent 300-500 more for their computer than i did....
#12.2 d4t4b0mb on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:23
I think you would find that as AMD marketshare rose, so would their prices. AMD is cheaper because they *have* to be in order to stay in business. AMD aren't out there to be your friend either, they are a business and want to make money. They just have lousy advertising and their past products have left a bad taste in the mouth of many.
#12.3 domgrimm on 27 Dec 2005 - 22:40
I'm not buying another Apple until it has an Intel Inside
#13 frogworm on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:26
anyone who hates Intel is a tool. both AMD and Intel are good companies so stop bashing one versus another. i've had way too many problems with ATi so i changed to an nVidia-wanting consumer but you don't hear me bashing one versus another. you just gotta grow some facial hair and stop bitching.
#14 bucko on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:31
I still remember that robots advert when the pentium 2 was released. I cant remember it exactly, just these robots were all walking round then I'm sure it said intel inside at the end.
#15 OPaul on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:32
Why change it if it's so recognized?
(1 reply) #16 madnuke on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:39
Don't peel off your stickers then! Save them and sell them on ebay in 50 years times.
#16.1 cork1958 on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:56
That's what I was thinking of!!
(1 reply) #17 Mathiasdm on 27 Dec 2005 - 20:41
I guess we'll never see Apple computers with 'Intel Inside' ;-)

Oh well, as long as they create some good processors, I won't complain.

I'm happy with the Intel desktop downstairs, and this AMD Turion laptop upstairs. No complaints about either ;-)
No reason to get religious about things like this, just use the right tool for the job ;-)
#17.1 vetMonkeyClaw on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:16
I don't think we were ever going to see those damn things on a Mac. Those stickers and the jingle are simply put in commercials and on computers for reimbursement. Every time you hear that jingle on a Dell commercial, Dell gets money from Intel. Every sticker you see, that just means they get money. Since Apple is out of debt and also it would kill the image, they don't really have a reason to put the jingle or the sticker. Its not required so I don't think we would ever see it on an Apple product.
(1 reply) #18 tiwaris on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:17
I for one loved intel adverts and the melodious music in the end. It was funny and cool. When I was a kid, I never understood the meaning of "intel inside". Is there a place where I can get videos of intel adverts?
#19 nowimnothing on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:41
Hopefully this means they'll have some fun/creative advertisements made up for the super bowl. Some of their commercials have been good over the years i think.
#20 Orange on 27 Dec 2005 - 21:49
WHY? The name has been with us for so many years why change? :p
(4 replies) #21 f00kie on 27 Dec 2005 - 22:03
Wow, so many fanboys. I don't understand it - you're paying good money for an expensive product (say an AMD processor) and then, with all your fanboyism, you hype up the product creating free advertising for the company. That's kind of funny -- the company owns you.

Remember, AMD/Intel didn't give you anything for free, so you shouldn't be defending their processors - that's called advertising and usually involves a person getting paid for it.
#21.1 MasterSpy on 27 Dec 2005 - 22:25
Sound point.
#21.2 MrCobra on 28 Dec 2005 - 05:23
I've been giving free advertising to AMD since around 1985-1986. So, they don't pay me for it. Big deal. The more money the earn from increased sales means more money spen in R&D and the outcome is better tech.

Tell me though, why is it so wrong to promote a product you like?
#21.3 fubarshibby on 28 Dec 2005 - 11:55
He never said promotion was bad... But the defending of the product as though it is your own is bad. So many people act in that way, and it makes no sense...
