- OMG how ugly

-
#1.2 Posted by Shining Arcanine on 31 Dec 2005 - 15:40
- I agree with you. If I was Intel's chairman, I would have the entire marketing department fired.
-
#1.3 Posted by mr_skrilla on 31 Dec 2005 - 16:05
- wow... that sucks.....really bad... they should stick w/ old logo
-
#1.4 Posted by outofcoffee on 31 Dec 2005 - 19:14
- IMHO I think the logo looks fresh - the old dropped 'e' version seems a bit antiquated now.
I don't care much for "Leap Ahead" though - if you've ever had your life changed by the marketing book "Positioning" I think you'd agree 'Intel Inside' is a far wiser bet. But hey. This could just be another "new coke"
-
#2 Posted by fjv on 30 Dec 2005 - 20:53
- looks retro... hmmm.. dunno... dont like it so much
that logo on macs will look cool tho

- i don't like the slogan being off to the side, it adds to the space it will have to take up and the slogan be easily cut out when being mocked. i suppose they wouldn't been labeled as new enough if it was still embodied in the circle but atleast put the slogan under the circle or make the circle out of the slogan. hmm, i don't think they picked a good logo if i can come up with better ideas

-
#4.2 Posted by fultonhoward on 31 Dec 2005 - 05:11
- Yea, I hate it! Even I could design something better, and I really suck at graphics design. I liked the dropped e.

- leap ahead? rofl for some strange reason i find that funny
-
#5.1 Posted by jp10558 on 31 Dec 2005 - 18:35
- I know, I don't think Intel's desired first response to the new logo was a chuckle from the viewer. It seems visially boring compared to the old one also.
Not that I really care too much, but this just looks sort of lame.
Also, I can't figure why you'd change a logo that you'd already spent probably billions of dollars establishing, and is extremely recognized...
It'd be like Coca Cola suddenly deciding they wanted to go to a Typed style font in green or something...
-
#6 Posted by Noveed on 30 Dec 2005 - 21:15
- leap ahead coz amd is give them a whopping lol , yeah but leap ahead gives you the idea of moving forward, the logo looks retro and aged... none the less its simple and does its job

- OMG. Ugliest.Logo.Ever. The slogan is pretty bleh as well. Their overpaid marketing gurus couldn't come up with something better? Sad.

#8.1 Posted by Krome on 31 Dec 2005 - 04:16
- Actually the story goes like this. The guy who was in charge of the Marketting Dept was frustrated and went out to the bar and found himself in some cheap hotel. When he woke up, he found a frog leaping out of his bed. Yeah he still has the hung-over. Realizing he was late for work and to present his ideas at the meeting, he leap off the bed and into his yesterday's suite and off he went. He didn't have much in his head except for the word "Leap ahead" and a hung-over.

- Looks horrible IMO
-
#10 Posted by Lasker on 30 Dec 2005 - 21:40
- yes the slogan had a horrible design, why not to put that "leap ahead" under the letter "Intel" will be looks better, I hope that this is not going to be the final design, because looks pathetic to me.
-
#11 Posted by Snipe™ on 30 Dec 2005 - 21:43
- I prefer the old logo, not that it is on anything I own atm
-
#12 Posted by bucko on 30 Dec 2005 - 21:44

- I coudn't believe that the "Leap ahead" is part of the logo so I loaded only the image to be sure.
Any way - "Leap ahead" enclosed with Intel - would scream I'm so stupid I can't make decent logo.
Did anyone think about "Leap ahead" as "Limp ahead"?
I hope that they stick only to the "Intel" logo

#17 Posted by Lexcyn on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:05
- Crappy logo. It's imbalanced with the text coming out the one side.
-
#18 Posted by cjb1118 on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:09
- I quite like it, although I think it may look better without the slogan part sticking out the right hand side.
-
#19 Posted by RapidFire on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:22
- I don't like it. It looks too plain for an intel logo. Intel, to me, represents a powerhouse of technology. The logo looks like it was made by George Bush trying to be creative :p . <Sigh> Intel is once again proving that it is not the top dawg in its industry anymore.
-
#20 Posted by machorro on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:24
- the logo looks nice...
the slogan, not so much

-
#21 Posted by MNS on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:28
- looks fake and it doesn't say anything. the slogan is unimaginative and plain. the old one was leaps better, can't believe it's 37 years old.
-
#22 Posted by Matt500 on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:40
- It kind of looks like a yogurt label, why leap ahead? They are not doing anything that special right now.
-
#23 Posted by mx3 on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:41
- Not that great, but honestly was the old one very good either? It looks more modern, plus the new slogan makes use of the implied "you" marketing strategy. It's not like this is the successor to the coolest logo ever or anything

-
#24 Posted by Matt500 on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:42
- Thats it, they have copied the Onken yogurt logo lol
-
#25 Posted by freeeekyyy on 30 Dec 2005 - 22:56
- I prefer thye old one. I don't like when companies change their logos. But especially when the old logo looked nice as it was, as is the case with Intel.
-
#26 Posted by Ambience on 30 Dec 2005 - 23:37
- I like it. It's simple and effective. It promotes what the company is trying to do. It works.
-
#27 Posted by Quick Reply on 30 Dec 2005 - 23:41
- Looks crappy, is this part of the downfall of a once great Intel?
-
#28 Posted by Enigma776 on 30 Dec 2005 - 23:43

#29 Posted by djesteban on 31 Dec 2005 - 00:31
- I guess the logo is ok... even if personally I don't like it tht much... BUT WHY! oohhh why did they abandoned the intel inside slogan... that slogan kicked ass!
-
#29.1 Posted by MNS on 31 Dec 2005 - 02:29
- exactly. they should've maybe revamped the old logo and slogan and brought it up to date, like what Apple and Microsoft (with the Windows logo) keep doing. the shape and form is basically the same, only modernize it a bit. there was no need for a complete change, especially if the one you're switching to is crappier than the old one. :/
besides, a company of that scale changing their image is always dangerous. can you imagine what would happen if Marlboro or Coca-Cola decided to change logos?
i keep thinking this is a hoax. it's not anywhere on intel.com as of yet, and it looks pretty amateurish for a multi-billion dollar company. but then again, why do i care?
-
#30 Posted by kezzzs on 31 Dec 2005 - 02:27

or
Intel

See? anything's better.

- did any of your mothers ever tell you "if you don't have anything nice to say then it's best not to say anything at all"? I guess it's better than stupid fruit.
-
#33.1 Posted by Krome on 31 Dec 2005 - 04:36
- Don't tell that to the modernize society. That expression should be laid to rest with the third-world country and its passive hindsight. Great insight leads great leaders for better tomorrow. It is remarks and good understanding of this magnitude that change the world. If you see something wrong and just keep silence for the sake of "feels good" or "looks good", then progess would be slow for the ever changing society.
Let's just say that IF many of us did not give a negative feedback about the logo, then let's assume Intel really adopt it. I would say that it's because they did not hear a negative feedback from customers. And then people would start to lose grip in wanting an Intel CPU. The market share falls down. Do you see the domino effect of regression? -
#33.2 Posted by MNS on 31 Dec 2005 - 05:36
- your mother must've been born in the 19th century, cuz i've only heard that from old people, my grandparents and the like..
like Krome explained, you can't force someone to shush just because they don't have a positive thing to say.. by that way of thinking, no dictatorship would ever come to an end.. speech and opinions shouldn't be restricted by any means.. just because an opinion potentially offends someone, which makes it a very subjective matter to begin with, it doesn't mean it should be silenced.. and sadly, that's what happens everyday on this site.. -
#33.3 Posted by Jon on 31 Dec 2005 - 18:06
- As expected, you've missed the point.
Maybe it needs to be worded a bit simpler:
"If you've nothing CONSTRUCTIVE to say, say nothing".
There are VERY few constructive comments on this news post. Most sound like children in the playground.
If you can honestly say you take non-constructive criticism as well as constructive criticism, I say Sir: You are a lier, or a new breed of super human (probably crossed with a duck). -
#33.4 Posted by jp10558 on 31 Dec 2005 - 18:39
- Well, I'd think it's constructive for a company to know that many people find the new logo to be from bland (er than the old one) to slightly humurous and reminding them of Yogurt...
I mean, the whole point of a logo is to evoke a feeling and recognition of a company in the viewer. If I was intel, I wouldn't want my logo to evoke *Yogurt*.

- Pretty crapping marketing. "Intel Inside" was very powerful branding. Not only was it simple, direct and catchy sounding, it most importantly identified what and where Intel's products where. Intel Inside told you that Intel was responsible for powering your computer. "What makes that magic box work?" "It's got Intel Inside".
Leap Ahead is just a generic phrase, and a lame sounding one at that. Can you picture anyone even remotely cool or powerful "leaping"? May as well have chosen Prance Ahead, Glide Forward. -
#43.1 Posted by bluarash on 31 Dec 2005 - 07:16
- I agree with you that their market choice leaves much to be desired. I think the new logo stinks. I think, however, the word "Leap Ahead" was carefully chosen. I can picture a cat leaping ahead. I can also picture something like a quantum leap or time warp.
I think the real details might be in the use of core. I hope they don't try to trademark the Core name. This might create a lot of confusion over the specs of a CPU.
I really liked the Intel Inside campaign. I, however, now have an AMD64 processor in my computer. I don't really care what processor slogan they use but I wish them well. More competition leads to better products.
-
#44 Posted by bid1 on 31 Dec 2005 - 06:56
- Sleap Ahead Intel.
I'd like to know how much they paid the person who came up with this hideous thing. M$ paid top dollars for a name for Longhorn and all they came up with was Vista. Do you really need to hire someone to think up things like these?
This move definitely proves AMD is taking it to them and making them nervous. Way to go AMD.
Happy New Year 2006 everyone.

#46 Posted by DirtyLarry on 31 Dec 2005 - 08:11
- I am thoroughly unimpressed.
I have been in the graphic design business for close to 7 years now as a career. Although I mainly do interface design and creating logos was never my field of expertise, I have definetely done some logo design in the past so I am familair with the process.
More importantly though, one of the firms I worked with dealt heavily in brand identity, so in our department we had 2 designers whose field of expertise was strictly just logos, and they were damn good designers at that.
I clearly remember a running joke among those two designers when they were stuck for ideas, and it was sometime along the lines of just throw a circle or some swooshes around the main text and the client is almost guaranteed to like it.
I know it is based off of their older logo, but IMO it just looks truly unispired.
Then again, I personally am not swayed to any type of product strictly based on a logo, but I do feel that it could have been way better than what it is.
Oh well, not going to change my life one way or the other thats for sure.

- I guess no one has ever heard the phrase "less is more"? The logo is simple, like the slogan, and gets the job done. Who cares what it looks like as long as there is a quality product?
-
#50.1 Posted by ir0nw0lf on 31 Dec 2005 - 14:27
- Tell that to all the people in the industry who work solely on product packaging/appearance... Bet they would love you. Product packaging is big big big. Many companies hope to catch the eye of the consumer first before anything else. This can extend to things like company logos as well, but not as much.
-
#51 Posted by xenon54 on 31 Dec 2005 - 14:26
- Leap ahead.... What am I, a frog?
I'd peel that sticker off the front of my pc.
-
#52 Posted by StuRReaL on 31 Dec 2005 - 14:48
- i bet it cost millions to come up with that.
-
#53 Posted by groingo2 on 31 Dec 2005 - 16:00
- They have to be kidding, they actually paid someone to come up with that?
They should have had a logo contest.
-
#54 Posted by peterish on 31 Dec 2005 - 16:54
- eww lol. What motives compel major companies like Intel to change their logo/slogan? You'd think that after building a world recognized trademark, they'd wanna keep it...

- It looks like we have a bunch of self-appointed experts in art and design here.
Judging by the sigs and avatars some of you have, your opinion is not based on experience.
I'll dissect this for the uninitiated.
The logo is the "intel" and the swosh surrounding it. The "leap ahead" would be the slogan/tagline which would be optional in marketing materials. It is entirely possible that they may make the tagline optional for case emblems. I would guess that the tagline would be used more by Intel than OEMs.
This is a much more simplified logo which communicates a strong brand recognition that is not tied to any particular chip or chipset.
Go ahead and ask any average Joe consumer if they care about which particular chipset is in their machine. They don't care.
This is definitely a smart move as it will solidify their brand recognition, reduce printing costs when advertising multiple product lines and reduce costs for OEM's for printing emblems on boxes.
A manufacturer could use the same box for single and dual core machines and just slap on a specs sheet sticker on the box.
One more thing, this scales much better even to the size of a favourites icon. -
#56.1 Posted by brianshapiro on 31 Dec 2005 - 23:57
- those appointed as experts by others arent necessarily better

the logo isnt so bad, i think most peoples reaction is that the old slogan was much better -
#56.2 Posted by mgleason007 on 01 Jan 2006 - 14:53
- I wasn't aware that "Intel Inside" was chipset-specific. Can you please tell me to which chipset it specifically refers?
People do care what kind of CPU is in their machine. They see this huge marketing push on TV for "Intel Inside" and "Centrino." When they go to a store to pick up a computer, they are going to ask the sales rep if it has "Intel Inside" or "Centrino Mobile Technology" if they're buying a laptop. It's called F.U.D. and is a very effective, if not heinous, marketing technique.

- Intel's new slogan "Leap ahead" doesn't really fit in with their corporation status anymore. It should be more along the lines of "fall behind" since AMD has gained momentum in the last year or so. They have already surpassed Intel with their AMD64 line. Intel still has 32bit CPUs which altough dual core, do not reach the main portion of the market which is the gaming market. Dual core chips do not offer any benefits for gamers altough it does for the production market such as the motion picture industry. AMD has managed to win over the bigger pot and is pushing ahead hard with great success ahead! Intel, by the time you realize how behind you will be, it will be too late as you will already have lost a significant chunk of you loyal customers.
-
#57.1 Posted by mgleason007 on 01 Jan 2006 - 14:54
- You honestly think that the gaming market is the main source of CPU sales?
-
#58 Posted by mattrobs on 01 Jan 2006 - 02:20
- If "Intel Inside" was so powerful that the creator of the Simpsons decided to attach it to a French missile cartoon, then something <i>was </i>successful.
-
#59 Posted by machima on 01 Jan 2006 - 02:42
- I like the logo, but they should have kept the Intel Inside slogan, as it truely is a part of pop culture, as almost everyone knows what it means.

Thursday Intel announced the successor to its 37 year old logo and the "Intel Inside” slogan that has accompanied it for the last decade. The new logo features a similar oval swirl surrounding the company name which no longer features the lowered "e" along with the new slogan "Leap Ahead". Intel is expected to formally reveal this re-branding with further details during next weeks Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
