PowerUser.tv #26: Google ‘Censorship’, E3 Bans and Sparkle

This week on the show Kristin, Derek and Brad discuss Google becoming part of the Great Firewall of China by caving to the Chinese government's censorship demands, E3 bans scantily-clad booth babes, the legalities (and ethical issues) of selling pre-loaded iPods/video iPods on eBay for massive profits, and guess what country spams the most? U.S.A! U.S.A!

Brad goes into great detail about Microsoft "Sparkle" and how it's certainly not a "Macromedia Flash killer" as well as a good roundtable discussion about training in the workplace; is it the company's responsibility or the employee's? Disney buys Pixar for a gazillion-jillion dollars and two crappy TV networks merge to create, well, a "doubly craptastic" network. Also, we field a call from Nicholas in Canada who asks whether the PowerUser.TV panel believes certain new Vista features are directly influenced by or being added to address Mac OS X features.

Brad immortalizes the Disney-Pixar purchase in an impromptu song, Derek unveils the theme song to his new show and Kristin (the silverback gorilla) lets pirates have it with a right stern verbal lashing! Download it now for an hour of entertaining tech news!

For some reason my iTunes didn't update autmatically, so I forced an update by right-clicking on the show name in my podcast library and selecting "update podcast". No idea why it didn't automatically download though, as I have it set to do that.

This is a pretty sad podcast for the most part. Listened to an episode a few months ago, deleted it half way through because I couldn't stand the rabid Windows grandstanding and Mac bashing. This time I was disgusted by how one of the hosts went into little more than a sales pitch, trying to say how DesktopX is better than Konfabulator and how useful it is (he forgot to mention how good it is a wrecking system stability and performance, like any of those crappy "GUI enhancement" apps from stardock. Thats one thing I've noticed from this podcast, its heavy on the bashing of Apple/Mac to promote Windows, whereas all those Mac-centric podcasts just get on with the news and whatnot, no bashing of competition.

I'm not a fan of this podcast either. The discussions in this episode seemed rather biased and dull, with stupid jokes about the host being tall in between. I'd rather listen to a more professional and interesting podcast like TWiT.

Well sheesh, then go listen to TWiT. Different strokes.

Great show. This is by far my favorite podcast on the net. Good chemistry, fun topics. And they know their stuff. Keep it up!

The guy from Quarter To Three usually has good stuff to say, Kristin and Brad have some freaky geek love for each other going on or she feels sorry for him / works for him and Derek is kind of in there pitying himself, cheer up mate. Ive missed the last 3 now, hopefully Neowin will get their own Podcast soon.

The only other Podcast Neowin does is our Neocast Gamers Podcast right now. We hope to have other "Poweruser.TV - Neocast" Podcasts down the road, but right now it's just the original Poweruser.TV and Neocast - Gamers.

We don't mind waiting, Gamers podcast was pretty good.
