Cable company NTL will be trialling a new service in March. In partnership with Arris and BitTorrent the trial will take place in Ashford, Kent. The 100Mb speed will be 10 times the highest speed offered by NTL at the moment.
NTL aren’t just offering this speed increase out of the goodness of their hearts, the bosses at NTL have been working hard over the past few months, with a takeover of Telewest broadband currently taking place and a proposed bid for Virgin Mobile. This move will add another direction to their plans. With a 100Mb service HD videos will be readily available, and with the support of BitTorrent these can easily be shared, with appropriate licenses of course.
A 100Mb service will mean that the UK will finally compete with the rest of the world in terms of high speed broadband, with countries in Europe and Asia offering speeds of 10Mb or higher years ago. It will also be a huge push for HD technology in the next year, with on demand movies available and the possibility of a service that could rival Sky’s ‘Sky+’ package.
It’s definitely a rollercoaster of a time at NTL at the moment, just a fortnight ago broadband users around the country were subject to regular cuts in their service and there have been frustrated calls from users disappointed with their new 10Mb connection. One things for sure though, when a 100Mb service becomes available speed enthusiasts will be queuing up to put pen to paper.

Thanks to Swashbuckler for posting this in the (BPN) Back Page News

Can only get 2Mb ADSL atm though.
I bet there is no chance of getting any faster for years as there is no cable and I can't imagine my exchange is going to be put on some fast speed anytime soon.
Well thats my comment anyway
I want 100Mb...well 4,8,10,12 whatever would be nice!
Cant wait until bulldog come to my area 8mbit connection with no limits
NTL Suck
I'm with Bulldog now, and after a shaky start, I haven't had any problems. Once you're setup (for which BD DO drag their heels over) you get fluid speeds, and best of all ZERO CAPS!!
I download an average of 400-500GB a month on newsgroups, and can assure everyone on here I'd rather have my 8MB DSL with no caps than 100MB with a monthly limit and blocked ports.
2Hours 44Minutes and 24seconds of full downstream
That means if you start DLin at full speed (anything) you'll have your
great 120GB cap done in 2:44:24h, great isnt it?
I just love the way they advertise it.
ps: i know there's no such 100% efficiency, give it 4 hours at most.
at uni, i get 2-10mb speed - with one problem.. no p2p :'(
I'm on 10MB NTL and service can be abit crap at times.
God damnit
I want a upload speed increase! My server sucks ass at 32KB/s (256kbps)
cable on the other hand can go up to 11mb
https://www.bethere.co.uk/
so prehaps this is us TW customers who are on there 2mb service, got an email from TW inviteing us to try there 4mb service for 3 months at £17.00
TW are prepareing us for the end of good customer service.
as the consumer always win that fight
gl
With Bulldog / UKOnlines 8-22Mbit uncapped unlimited DSL usage, NTL can blow their trumpet all they want about offering the fastest service.
With such ludicrous "usage allowance" caps in place, what the hell's the point in using NTL's 10-100Mbit?
maximum speed in my ALL my country is
512K/B
Go back about 2-4 years or so for that.
But are they going to do this? Ofcourse not. The government needs to get involved. The broadband monopolies are pure evil.
I heard of a small company SWITCHPOINT (If I remember that was the name), with a DSDN broadband internet that they were supposed to deploy in or near the city of (Denver, CO) a few years back. I had a friend that lived close to Denver, and that he signed up for this service that supposedly had a 100mbps up & down symmetrical connection. I havn't heard from him in a few years now, and I was wondering if anyone here might have heard of this?
I believe it was SWITCHPOINT in or near Denver, CO. I tried to pull up the website, but it seems that it is no longer availible, unless they switched the name or something.

I hate them, OH WIPDO DOO from 2mB to 3.5mB OH MY GOD OH WOW
I couldn't find anything about this on their website - any idea on where it is?
Customer service has always been great, and I only ever had to reboot my modem when I was downloading torrents at about 500KBps a couple of times. I guess I choked it.
Works fine after a reboot, and never had problems when on 1mb or 2mb service.
There are teething problems with the 10mb service. but seems to be fine at the moment.
Go NTL (y)
FREAKING SWEET!
I think that they should test these services out in more rural areas, cuase they already know its going to work in the big cities.
2mb/256k here on the IOW. SDSL rollout halted just before our exchange was done!
BT's problem is the line length. Its not really that easy to provider 1~2mbit + on lines that are 5+KM long. They do have plans of mini DSLAMS in Street Cabs but this will be mega expensive and rollout will be slow. i would imageing they will need to upgrade some copper to fiber as well. There working on a cable networks thats been in place for decades and it just isnt capible of high speeds until either mini dslams or fiber to the street cab comes along
100Mbit would be sweet but with NTL it will probabily be quite poor.
I have a 20MB down, 2 MB up cable internet connection, and telephone subscription with free national evening and weekend calls for ... euro 59,95 / month (package deal).
No official download limit, only Fair Usage Policy which is about 80GB a month before getting email request to stop excessive downloads in rush hours. If you don't comply, they could lower your connection to about 128kb for the rest of the month.
That is in the Netherlands. Several cable companies also offering 80 & 100MB cable Internet connections, but only to companies so far.
