This morning, the iTunes music store announced that it had sold one billion songs.

Asides from the significance for legal online music sales, it marked the end of a competition involving a $10,000 iTunes gift voucher, an iMac, and 10 iPods. And that's just for one person.

Apple's iTunes, combined with the iPod, makes a powerful force in the music industry that has shown 'how to do' legal music downloads. The service is simple, well priced, and contains a good collection of music.

Whilst there are other commendable competitors in the market, none seem to have produced such a remarkably successful combination as Apple, and for this, they should be congratulated.
