Google video censorship claims snubbed

After much speculation it seems Google were not responsible for withholding a video of the Iraq conflict from US audiences, but the original poster of the video.

The rather boring 17-second video presents stateside viewers with an error message, claiming they are not authorized to view the video. The video shows nothing but an explosion, from quite a distance, followed a distant cloud of smoke.

A Google spokesperson set the record straight: " Video uploaders, using Google Video's 'Advanced Options' feature, can choose to blacklist countries. In this case the uploader blacklisted the US and only the US."

News teams accross the world misinterpreted this as another move towards censorship, after recent controversy over Google's operations in China.

unless you are really dumb it was quite obvious that google arent going to censor what people can look at for no reason. if you believed the media before you believed the general idea of freedom of information then you are just plain dumb.

NBC is retarded with this. I tried to look for Olympic clips and it wouldn't let me play them in my country (Canada). GG NBC. I hope you lost millions due to the lack of ratings.

America is a entire continent, USA is only a country (and not the big one), so when you talk about americans, you also reffers to mexican and canadian.

@ 1.1

Even though its the United States of America?

America refers to the country. North America refers to the Continent. Hell if your looking at all americas you have to count central and South America as well.

You can get all these videos and far more disturbing ones from gore sites and p2p. Google can censor whatever they want, it makes no difference except to noob reporters and clueless Pentagon bureaucrats. I bet Donald Rumsfeld still uses Win98 and has to call Geek Squad to clean viruses out of it every month.

Well then; where the video? I'm in the Usa, and i want to see the "boom". Who cares if its just a boom crackle laugh, the point is that theres no way in hell that video or ones similar would air in America; plain and simple the usa gov. doesnt want the average american to view certain videos that might cause them to think otherwise "the war on terrorism". Well im off to go find the video now....
#11.1 Budious on 27 Feb 2006 - 23:01
It's as simple as using a proxy... the video only shows a deliberate detonation of a IRD. Videos like this air all the time, stop watching cartoon network and tune in to CNN or Fox News.

I don't usually watch tv; at all, any channel; a personal attack like yours is agasint the rules but still your attempt at making me look like a silly little child is funny and note taken.

Thank you for at least being helpful in the first part.

I never believed it was *Google* doing this (I mean, Google don't censor anything in China either out of free will), but was rather wondering who the uploader was.
