Apple Swamped with Demand for New MacBook Pro

According to a report by Forbes, demand for Apple's new portable is soaring well beyond expectation. Previously thought to a potential problem for Apple, overflowing demand for the MacBook Pro is a very refreshing sight to see. With stock prices hovering in the $65-$66 USD range (down from the almost $90 USD in January), this report of Apple's professional portable "flying off the shelves" is expected to help boost the stock price well above its current levels.
Gene Munster (Piper Jaffray analyst) rates Apple as a result of this overwhelming demand as an "outperforming" stock with a target price of $103 USD. As of now, Apple is not expected to fully benefit from these predictions as a result of production restraints but is expected to fully meet the demands currently presented by consumers.

- No surprises here - I'm right in thinking that we'll be able to install Vista (easily) on the MacBook pro aren't I?

- It wouldn't be the legal thing to do, unless you were runing it in VPC.

- There is nothing illegal (or violating EULA terms & conditions) about installing another OS on an Apple PC.
Now, Apple does have EULA terms (which may or may not be valid in your country of residence) that disallow installing OSX on non-Apple hardware. So it would be potentially illegal to install a copy of OSX on your Dell or HP box. -

- exactly, but windows doesnt have anything like that in it's EULA so it's legal to install it on anything

- Yeah, but Vista isn't out yet. And, MS has time to add that to the EULA.

- There is nothing illegal about install Windows on any computer so long as it has been properly licensed. Keep in mind however that the Mac did not come with an OEM copy of Windows, so you cannot legally install an "Update" version of Windows, you cannot use an OEM license from another vendor because OEM licenses are not transferable (can't even use it to satify the Upgrade CD); you can't buy an OEM copy because you didn't build the computer. That pretty much leaves your only option as getting the Full retail version which costs way too much.
There are also technical issues. You can't install Windows XP because Windows doesn't support the Extendable Firmware (or whatever its called) that is found in Macs. Vista will in theory support that, but it is yet to be seen if you can actually install Vista on a MacTel.
Hopefully Microsoft sees MacTel computers as a valuable market (especially for gamers) and makes a reasonably affordable version of Vista Basic for the Mac; $99 seems about right. If they expect everyone to pay the extra $100 just to get the “Full” version then they will loose out because no one would pay that much for an OS they are not using for anything but gaming. -

- well, then let's see MacOSX on a PC. I still love the way you install programs on there.

- Guys, the difference is MSFT does not manufacture the PC's you use.
Apple develops the OS and designs the macs that the OS runs on. Apple does not prevent you from installing other OSes on their macs but OS X is tied to macs only. -

- Yeah, but Vista isn't out yet. And, MS has time to add that to the EULA.

Why would MS issolate a potentially large market of users? MS is a software company that wants to sell its software. Worse case scenario is that the OEMs push Microsoft to take a firm stance on not supporting Apple's hardware. But, last I checked, the OEMs owe more to Microsoft then Microsoft does to the OEMs.

- Everyone who has a little bit of intelligence will wait for the next best thing. The current MacBook Pro is just a rebranded PowerBook with an Intel chip inside. Apple is going to release something much bigger (and I don't mean in size) shortly, as many reputable journalists believe. Just wait and see!

- lol yeah i'm on the same boat
I would really like to get a MacBook Pro, but I'll wait till April 1st to see if something better comes in
I would really like that Apple realeases a 12" MBP since I'm getting tired of the big space my current laptop has, besides you can't beat the portability of 12" laptop hehe, oh well we'll have to wait

- it would not be 12". if hte rumours of a 13" macbook/ibook are true, i doubt apple would release a macbook pro of a smaller screen size. so it will prolly be 13

- In Canada, it is lower than Sony Vaio models in the Sony Store retail channel when you factor in the fact that the specs are overall better than the Vaio's.
If you are comparing against Dell, yeah the Dell is cheaper but it includes XP Home and very little software. Not joining a domain is not a big deal for home users but it is the lack of encryption and remote desktop support that bothers some people.
The mac comes with with an Enterprise level client OS and iLife. To many, that is a big plus. -

- Yeah, but everyone laughs at sony for being ridiculously overpriced anyways. You can still get a good Asus, Acer, Toshiba, IBM, etc.
Also, when buying a Dell, you know you can upgrade the OS to XP Pro when you customize, so that should hardly be an issue

- I want one =[
I don't know why, but I just get the impression that Apple is starting to kill Microsoft. I never in my life wanted a Mac so bad!
