Nike and Google have both paired up and quietly launched a invitation-only website for Football fans worldwide.

According to Business Week the two companies have been planning the site for the past eight months with Nike supplying the content and Google managing the technical side of things.

Joga.com is a network where users can create websites and send email, photos and video. Joga is only expected to focus soley on Football and nothing more.

Google is expected to announce Joga this week so expect a flurry of invite threads here on Neowin

Why are google things always invitation only? Simply to hype it up or as some kind of safety measure? Because it's bloody annoying.

Wrong its football, football was established well before any american game it was created centuries before as a mob game which people participated in on holy days and other special days

I'm Canadian, what the hell do I call it?

Screw it: Kickball.
Quote this comment #9.2 Posted by Cy Bones on 21 Mar 2006 - 17:03
Football or Soccer - all the same... Soccer is derived from "Association Football".

Kickball does have a certain ring to it, maybe that should be used in one of those Bud adverts!

not only in europe, almost everywhere its called FOOTBALL in central and latin america too, I think I asia must be called football too but I could be wrong(any asian fellow willing to confirm this )

NFC Wave call it by its real name football

Yeah in Asia we call it football too.
And also if someone want to call it "kickball", we might as well call American foodball "Handball" or "Grab'n'run ball".

The site looks like an amateur web designer bought the [fictional] GooglePack4Web application and shoved in a load of stuff. e.g. the grey google login on a black page. ??? the google video-esque movie that looks blu-tacked on. they've been developing the site for 8 months? please. oh yeah, and invites only, to promote exclusivity - not required, the site looks bad enough that they'll achieve exclusivity without any extra help. they must have been so worried about being swamped.

Trivia: "Joga" means 'play' (depending on the context, verb) in Portuguese.
