- I wouldn't install this on your main Windows installation if you have any plans to revert to version 6 - when you revert to version 6 the security & content features are totally screwed.

#4.1 Posted by jadkins555 on 21 Mar 2006 - 18:30
- While this was true for the intial Public Preview, this new version removes without a hitch. Did you personally experience this problem when removing this newer build?

- opening new tab will show up some nice info about tab feature..
and (by default) creating new tab from a link will fire up new tab just next to current tab u're working on..
not at the far right ..

- This version fixed a bug that I had w/ DHTML popups crashing IE, but now there's a new bug with rendering CSS. When looking at any CSS enabled myspace page (I'm sure it's like this for others, but if anything's going to stress IE code, it Myspace - I mean, c'mon) the screen flashes very fast between just showing the background and showing the page normally (w/ tables and such). Arrrgh. I love IE7, but it'll be nice once all this is fixed.

- This is meant to be layout complete, but at a first glance it look the same layout at the first beta 2 pr?
At least you can now set the new tabs open your home page and not just a blank page!

#7.1 Posted by hosebeast on 24 Mar 2006 - 08:24
- They're not talking about the GUI layout. They mean the rendering engine which interprets HTML, CSS, and other content types to "layout" a page. The phrase "layout complete" means that they have finished implementing all the new rendering features they plan to include in this release, such as CSS2.1 selectors, alpha channel in PNG, etc. By announcing this milestone, they are letting web designers and developers know they can start testing in all the various areas. Anything which doesn't work is therefore a bug (rather than merely being unfinished) and should be reported.

- Created Date: 22 April 2005, 10:33:58 (on certain files)
I guess not everything has changed for a while
Or is this Created Date from when that exe was first started (i.e. the first build of IE7)?

- It put the Yahoo toolbar on without even asking. I had to uninstall, because I found no way to remove it. Yahoo toolbar is well known spyware.
-
#11.1 Posted by virtorio on 21 Mar 2006 - 11:21
- Disable it on the Add-on Manager? Right click the toolbar and deselect Yahoo! Toolbar?
First I heard about it begin spyware.

- I've actually removed the uninstaller for IE7 due to Ccleaner. Is there anyway else I can uninstall it?
-
#12.1 Posted by frail on 21 Mar 2006 - 11:19
- There's probably an easier way but I suppose you can reinstall to get the uninstaller back and then uninstall before running Ccleaner again.
-
#12.2 Posted by Jexel on 21 Mar 2006 - 11:51
- unfortunately you need to uninstall in order to reinstall

-
#12.3 Posted by Daninku on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:31
- I have the same problem, unfortunately CCleaner is set to clean Microsoft Updates installation material, thus it cleaned IE7 too. I get a message to uninstall the current version fro the Add/Remove Programs Applet under Windows Updates but obviously it's not there. Is there anyway I can still remove the current version and install the new one?
-
#12.4 Posted by Darkness2k on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:45
- try removing from the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallie7b2pmx
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftUpdatesWindows XPSP0ie7b2pmx
Then, replace your iexplore file (C
rogram FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe) with the iexplore.exe from Internet Explorer 6.
Now when you run the IE7 installer again, it should pass its "checks" to see if you have IE7 already installed and let you install again.
It worked for me when going from 7b1 to 7b2 anyway.
Good Luck -

I tried that but when i remove the exe file, WFP restores the damn exe back...
I looked up disabling WFP but that thing also is a mess with hex editing and all...
ccleaner humped me. -
#12.7 Posted by Jexel on 22 Mar 2006 - 06:50
- Thanks Darkness2k! It works fine.

- CCleaner seems to mess up a lot of uninstall programs. I had trouble removing and updating Nero 7 because of it.

#12.10 Posted by Darkness2k on 22 Mar 2006 - 16:04
- Saadu..
You should replace your iexplore.exe with one from IE6. I don't think the file protection replaces it then. As long as it says version 6 when you run the new IE7 setup, it should be ok
(I think the iexplore.ex_ will be on your Windows XP CD under i386 anyway... note that .ex_ will be compressed, so just uncompress the real iexplore.exe from it.)

- Darkness2k Thanks a lot for that tip. I didnt know the iexplorer.ex_ file is compressed. I kept renaming the ex_ to exe and WFP kept replacing it
Unzipped it and was able to install the update. Thanks for the help.

- I think it is quite a bit better than the previous version. Pages render faster, and the memory usage, although high, doesn't seem to be leaking - when you minimise the window, it releases all but about 4mb so my guess is that they have some smart memory management going on behind the scenes.
Now if it just had ad-blocking..... -
#13.1 Posted by Darkness2k on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:46
- I believe Adshield still works with IE7.

#14 Posted by ThomMcK on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:22
- I was excited about the preview refresh, looking forward to seeing what suggested layout changes MS had implemented.
I uninstalled the old preview, restarted, installed the new preview, restarted and then loaded it up (no install probs at all).
I then spent 30 mins to find out anything that had changed! All I can spot is that the built in RSS reader looks a bit cleaner and the favourites have an -> instead of a x.
What changes have others seen?

#15 Posted by predator001 on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:39
- if you already have an IE7 preview on your machine do you need to uninstall it first and go back to 6 or can you just lump it on top?
-
#15.1 Posted by Darkness2k on 21 Mar 2006 - 12:47
- You need to uninstall first (officially) as its setup routine checks a few places to see if you have IE7 already installed. Probably safer and cleaner to uninstall an older preview of IE7 (as the setup will tell you when you try to install over another copy of IE7).

#16 Posted by Allan® on 21 Mar 2006 - 14:02
- Same problem I had before, going from 5296 to 5299... fav's are broken. I can't use them. I completely uninstalled the old version of IE 7, then installed the new one. BUT if they can't get my damn favs to work, again, I'll wait till the final is released. Period.

- Question; Im on 56K till my router gets fixed so I want to download the setup when Im at school then transport it to my MP4 player. Is there a link for the full offline english instalation?
-
#18.1 Posted by Darkness2k on 21 Mar 2006 - 15:27
- As far as I know, the 12meg file you get is the complete setup file. It may do some online validation etc, but the majority of the install should be in the download.

- I got the same error as you, and when I try to uninstall the bad install it said I had to use the same account to uninstall it which I am doing lol
Anyway to fix it just go to your registry HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer and add the DWORD, InstalledByUser set it to 1 after naming the DWORD and it should uninstall by adding that key.

- I have been trying this for a while on my only and main computer. Only minor bugs but it's a good browser for a change from version 6.
I will be formatting (been trying free open-source software for a while and now my system is sagging down) and staying off this until the final release comes out.
