Google on Thursday plans to unveil a much-anticipated, free Web-based calendar application that is expected to heat up the race with Yahoo and Microsoft. The free Web-based Google Calendar, allows users to build online calendars that enable specific individuals or groups of people to access all or some of the events listed. A Gmail account is not necessary to use Google Calendar.

Users can easily search for and add events to their calendars from within the program or directly off Web sites that are either publishing events using open calendaring standards or which have added a Google Calendar button to their site. Users also can search for events from friends' shared calendars and import events from Microsoft Outlook.

It's about time we got some good calendar integration. I use iCal on the Mac, if it sync'ed with Google cal it would be pretty nifty since I could check my calendar anywhere in the world.

Oh yeah, instead of fixing the crap still in beta (or seriously broken i.e. image and groups search), release another stupid product, thanks google. At this rate, you'll fall behind like Yahoo and Altavista did, they were also very powerful and became complacent too, and so are you.

I use groups search almost every day when developing software and it's working great here.

And the only "seriously broken" thing I can see about the image search is that they're a bit slow on refreshing that index, causing quite a few broken links. But at least it works most of the time for me.

A Gmail account is not necessary to use Google Calendar.

if u was posting that for me, it still asks me to login, so i guess the news article is slighly wrong on the aspect of not needing a google account

it's having a heart attack importing my iCal....wonderful little product they have here...

Woohoo! Way to go guys....another half-baked product coming from Google! Who-da thunk? Yeah, no thanks...I will be sticking with 30boxes.com thank you very much.

I think it synchronizes with iCal, not with outlook though as it lets you use .csv files for that rather than syncing, however it is very buggy so i can't be sure what it's doing really.

it'd be nice to seem them bring things like GMail or Google Groups out of Beta instead of 'unveiling' even more beta products.

Pitty it doesnt show the likes of Public Holidays from your area/country like Yahoo Calender does atuomatically.

Anyone know if they will include Public hols/Events as per Country of residence?

EDIT: Just found ut you can import from other public calenders. Nice

The news article is slightly incorrect.

It doesn't sync with Outlook.

It syncs with .csv which is not the same thing.

Its ok. Opened one just to have it. I do like Yahoo calendar more, so far, because I don't see any way to automatically add holidays to Google calendar.
