A READER informs us that Overclockers.co.uk has started accepting AM2 Nforce 5 pre orders for Abit boards. These should arrive by the 23rd of May 2006. The three models available will start from £79.95+VAT. They are the KN9S, the KN9 Ultra and the KN9SLI. They support DDR2 memory, have onboard ALC883 HD Audio, Nvidia GbE - other differencing factors include Dual GbE, Firewire, SLI support and more SATA ports. One or two stuffs worth noting; there's a heatpipe passive cooler on top of the chipset and a massive heatsink covering the south bridge it seems.

strange, it doesn't seem to be on their site and it's not mentioned in their news section which was updated today.

Well, that's at least a reasonable price (£95 inc. VAT). Any word on CPU prices? I'm not that bothered for now but it sounds like they're trying to be aggressive with pricing to counter Intel's upcoming processors.

I touch Overclockers with a barge pole. Possibly one of the worst retailers around.
Quote this comment #5.1 Posted by 64Bit_Oddity on 08 May 2006 - 23:54
I wouldn't touch them, even with a barge pole. I'd rather order something from America, including all the shipping charge's and tax!

Why do you dislike Overclockers so much weiran?

I moved away from overclockers after they lost my RMA'd 200-pound graphics card (which took me over 3 months to get a refund on).

Abit's websites aren't showing any AM2 products. Therefore, I consider this "news" to actualy be "rumors and FUD."

It's called fact-checking, Neowin. You might want to look into that.

Actually, i can confirm that they were on Overclockers website earlier (3 different versions) , but have obivously been romoved for one reason or another.

I take it OCUK have jumped the NDA gun again, as with the PhysX products, since the AM2 boards appear have been removed

Eh... I rather break my bank for the new Intel. I like AMD and all but... it's Intel's year to shine.

i have used overclockers time and time again, not one problem with them , in fact they are one of the first websites i check when i need something new due to my opinion on them, really would like to know why you guys look at them so badly

well AMD have released there new CPU way before intels so its never going to be as good, what i hope to see is AMD battling back against conroe (not sure if thats it spelt right) either that or some price wars and i can get a faster x2 :p:

Is Conroe going to be better than the AM2?
Is Conroe going to be more expensive than the AM2?
When is the AM2 going to be released officially?
When is the Conroe going to be released officially?

Overclockers sucks for price, delivery times and , its websites pretty poor, even if they have got it in early, it will arrive later than stockists who dont get it in that early, Get one at a PC Fair if you have to just not OC.co.uk!

Oh thanks. I think I'm not up- to-date hehehe. So I was going to build an S939 system and was suggested to wait for the new S940 to be released. So since Conroe is better and of the same price and is already released... you suggest a Conroe system right, which means I don't have to wait too much for the new S940s?

Conroe is not set to be out and about until September, should everything go as planned. If you're not particularly hurting in the way of performance, I see no point in going with AM2 since Conroe is right around the corner and looks to be cheaper than AMD's prices which will undoubtedly tumble once "Cornrow" hits the market.

The benchmarks you posted aren't even reported... if you compaire to Tom's Hardware ones...
Yours seems to be floating information, without the basis being shown for it.

If you wanna a pretty fine benchmark and review, based on real prototypes from AMD and Intel... try Tom's hardware, or another good site with real-application (DivX, 3d applications, zip/rar, dvd, etc) reports.

Yeah, Sharikou is a bit too biased for my taste, but there are interesting points. However, the bottom line is that the Athlon is not starved for bandwidth so AM2 is merely a way to provide expandability for quad cores, faster HT for servers, etc.. When a 2.4GHz Cornrow spanks a "best of yield" 2.8GHz Athlon and is cheaper to boot (most likely prices will fall like I said though), AMD is going to have some problems moving stock.

My main concern is the ODMC. First is that Intel just has more experience with making DDR2 memory controllers, so the immaturity of the AM2 might limit overclocking at first. Secondly, the integrated memory contoller limits the workable temperature range with phase change or LN2 cooling so world records will be held by Intel chips for a long time to come. AMD will need 65nm K8L just to be on the same field as Conroe with conventional cooling.

Pre sales for boards is now making the news? Sheesh ah well. MSI have had a board out in europe for a while thats easy enough to get in the uk if you ask them nicely if they will deliver to the uk. Other than that Ive found the MSI K9n Diamond up for sale in the uk ( Linkage )

Woodcrest will be released in June, Conroe in July and Merom in August. There's a story about that on Neowin.net now.
