The annual WinHEC conference is kicking off in Seattle this morning with a keynote address by Microsoft boss Bill Gates:

Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates will focus on how key technology investments are paving the way for innovative market opportunities and a shift to a new platform. Gates will also discuss the impact of the upcoming introductions of Microsoft Windows Vista, 2007 Office System, and Windows Server "Longhorn.”

Look for Gates to reveal additional details concerning the Beta 2 release of both Office 2007 and Windows Vista. Screenshots of Vista build 5384.2 have been spotted on several sites this morning, namely WinFuture.

The keynote address is scheduled to begin at 9AM PST. (Click here for time zone conversion) Traditionally the live web streams with their catchy 'while you wait' piano pieces are available well in advance.

*waiting*

Btw, shouldn't the technology advances allow them to have 600k+ streams? They have had 300k for quite some time now.

How does it matter ? :p I will fall asleep anyway. Its a shame that he is such a lousy presenter. As much as Vista excites me, a BG keynote is a sleep inducer.

Well, 300k is not high def is it? Would be nice to get a good picture, 600k is not high def either but it's in the right direction I actually enjoy watching bill with during his presentations, I think he is great at it.

Bill Gates is not Steve Jobs. And for most part, their is no cult fanatics following Microsoft and Windows, it's not the same with Apple. Steve and Apple presentation are allways special, you can feel the excitement.

Bill is boring....

yeah I was so excited the day he announced the $100 leather ipod case...

I'm no fanboy, but it's a fact. Steve is better with PR than Bill.

And even if what Apple announce is "somtime" extreme (cost wise), people in the audience allways cheers.

yeah, steve is much better(! we all just love the way he comes out in his one outfit that he's had since 1981, and spouts lies, and petty little smug insults directed at his competitors... then pauses, waiting for the sound of fanboy tongues drooling and flapping in the general direction of his so called greatness.

like most apple related products, steve is all so called style, over content; very little of what he says is worth listening to if only because apple do not innovate any more.

Yeah, 39 different versions of an OS, over-used pointless transparency, widgets/gadgets/wtf-ever they are calling them this week and spastic password prompts are SOOOOOO innovative.

lucifuge, i have no idea if you're referring to Vista or OSX. It sounds like you're referring to OSX, but i think Vista has more of the "over-used pointless transparency" and especially the "spastic password prompts." And then, of course, there is the windows sidebar, which will immediately get turned off.

Actually I was referring to Vista.

beta version?
what, 600kb streams have bugs or something? LOL
Quote this comment #3.2 Posted by M.F.D.K on 23 May 2006 - 13:40
yah there is this bug that makes Bill Gate's voice sound very feminin, so obviously they have to work on that.
Quote this comment #3.3 Posted by Kushan on 23 May 2006 - 13:45
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #4 Posted by M.F.D.K on 23 May 2006 - 13:46
oh yah they thought it was a bug but its a feature, sorry about that

yeah he is kinda boring but try and listen to what he is saying rather than the man himself. im sure he will have something good to say.
although will it be really technical, cause thats why i think bill is boring beause he is always talking to people who are developers or something. at that ces he wasnt boring.

i was kiddin before but in serious notes, he does make sense when he talks about the new developments and forthcoming products unless ur not into computer world or technology than sure u will find it boring.

I was unable to view this webcast with WMP 11, but worked fine with WMP 10 - talk about bugs! No wonder its a beta.

Was there even a user interface walkthrough of Vista in that stream?! Did I miss something here? All that I saw that was even close was the chick who thought she could rush through tonnes of good (should have been good) features, half of which backfired on her.

is there anyway to download the webcast so I could play it on my psp?
