Another quiet Apple release: iPod U2 is "Back for an Encore"

In yet another silent release by Apple, the U2 iPod has been rereleased. It silently appeared on Apple's site today, with the slogan "Back for an encore". It features video, color screen, and engraved autographs on the back from the members of U2.

However, one has to wonder if there will ever be an Apple announcement again, between the recent Mac@work section appearing on their website yesterday, the much anticipated Macbook quietly appearing, and this. Maybe it just means they have a big announcement coming up.

However, its good that there isn't that really bad contrast between the black and the polished metal on the back.

Love iPod. Love U2. Bono's Great. RED Product based iPod would have been nice too ..

Just makes me think, should I buy my video iPod now or should wait till august ?

Why would apple release an iPod at this time, when a new iPod would be appropriate in three months time ?

Wow talk about NOT front page worthy, wtf an apple advert?! NICE!!! We need that stupid Apple tab back for all this "news" to be placed and so everyone can easily avoid it, just because your trying to make a frontpage look full isn't a good excuse for this crap, a front paged filled with useless adverts is worst than a frontpage with 2 or 3 truly newsworthy stories.
As for the Ipod itself, its a bit out of place since U2 hasn't pooped out anything for a long while, not saying thats a bad thing, just odd since this is out and they aren't pimping any new tunes with it.

It's a collectors item and the original U2 iPod had appeal outside of U2 fans because of the colour and collectability. You could see younger kids listening to hip hop on the subway with a U2 iPod.

Firstly, it looks awful. Secondly, it really seems like they're trying to flog this. Usually you introduce a limited edition product and that's great but continuing it on when you update the product line seems really desperate and I don't understand the appeal. I guess they're trying to target 40yr old rockers wearing tight jeans. *shrugs*

I'll never understand Apple.
