Nice. Getting good speeds too. Close to 1Mb/s.
#5 simon360 on 07 Jun 2006 - 22:59
I'm still not sure whether or not I should wait. Let the stress on the servers go down, so some people can get it faster. After all, I need more RAM in my computer first.
#6 Alladaskill on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:00
VERY GOOD! Cleared my Cache! Thanks!

It's not that easy to get vista dual booting on a Mac AFAIK...it involves all kinds of ugliness like deleting your current OSX parition.

no it doesnt, you do have to delete the efi partition (can be done in the vista installation process). OSX works fine without that partition

Figured I'd give this a go, hopefully i'll have it by morning

I hope hardware manufactures do release more updated drivers. I really hope they do! Nvidia grahpics and nforce platform drivers need updated! They cause audio to go wack.
#15.1 rIaHc3 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:13
They problably will seeing this is a MAJOR release in the OS world.
#16 rIaHc3 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:12
Top speed here for my connection....

Seems like MS' servers are holding out pretty good....for now
(1 reply) #17 Jaxkesa on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:13
Wish they would make an official torrent. Don't trust my wireless connection to stay solid for a few hours
#17.1 rIaHc3 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:17
What difference would it make if it was a torrent or not for your WiFi connection?

Use MS' download manager
Use a 3rd party download manager

Very simple
(1 reply) #18 hilloki on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:15
Is there any difference between this build and the one on connect?
#18.1 rIaHc3 on 08 Jun 2006 - 11:07
No.
#19 Hidr0 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:15

why not spanish?
#22.1 rIaHc3 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:23
Already tried to which it to es or sp....Doesnt work...

Wait a few hours or maybe days. It may not be uploaded yet, or worse may not be complied yet.
#22.2 strekship on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:55
It is compiled. BTs can get it on connect. It will probably go up in a few days.
#22.3 aniv on 08 Jun 2006 - 03:35
because MS wants you to learn English? Do you want everything in spanish huh?
#22.4 MrCobra on 08 Jun 2006 - 05:29
Way to go with the racial remark. Very mature.
#22.5 rIaHc3 on 08 Jun 2006 - 11:10
because MS wants you to learn English? Do you want everything in spanish huh?

Well, seeing as spanish is the 3rd-4th most common language in the world (I think), It would be natural to have it for spanish speaking only beta testers.

It is compiled. BTs can get it on connect. It will probably go up in a few days.

Thanks for the info.
#23 kaffra on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:19

#24 Mafukie on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:19

I want to download the 64 bit edition, but when i click on the link, it says the ISO for that is 13.7 MB (versus 3.12 GB for the 32 bit edition). My IE7 isnt loading the Akamai download manager, btw.
#26.1 theyarecomingforyou on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:00
I had a similar issue when I tried to download a Linux distro a while back using an older version of Flashget. FAT32 and certain download managers can't handle files larger than 4GB, so if you try to download them it will only recognise the amount over the 4GB mark. So, if you're running NTFS and using a decent download manager you should have no problems.
#26.2 roadwarrior on 08 Jun 2006 - 11:21
I even had that problem on NTFS with the direct link in IE6 (no download manager). Good thing for me that I had downloaded the images from a newsgroup last week, which work just fine with the CPP keys.
#26.3 mus on 09 Jun 2006 - 20:50
Thanks for the advice about the download manager. When I used the Firefox download manager the file was only 13 megs vs. the little over 4 gigs.
(1 reply) #27 LBraasch on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:26
might be a dumb question however, i'm gonna ask anyways....

any way to install w/o having a dvd burner? I have a regular cd burner, would it be possible to burn it across multiple cd's? Any help would be great.
#27.1 strekship on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:57
You could mount the iso and install it from windows to another partition. I do not think that it is possable to span it. The install uses a big image file insted of lots of little files.
#28 rIaHc3 on 07 Jun 2006 - 23:27
On a nontopic/Neowin note: I think the admins/coders should temp set up a blank page for the next 24 hours that simply says (when you go to http://www.neowin.net ):

Welcome to Neowin!

As many of you know, Windows Vista Beta 2 is now available for download. In order to take stress off our servers you may directly go to the Microsoft Windows Vista website to download your copy now.

Yes it is possible (to a extent I think) but your gonna have to search Google. I cant tell you 100% how to do it.

You could always mount the .ISO in a emulation mounting tool (such as Dameon Tools). The instalation will work without any problemas.

Well, you can go to a pirating site... It's not really pirating because it was released publicly for free (at least, that's the way I see it)

Is this Windows Ultimate?
#38.1 Express on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:09
Everthing was one single binary.
You can use different keys to get differnt versions of Windows.

#39 micro on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:00
Servers on microsofts side JAMMED, was dloading at 1200kb/s now getting NOTHING!
#40 reidtheweed01 on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:12
If im not mistaken this is just a microsoft version of bittorrent. That might be why everyone is getting such good speeds.
#41 sachleen on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:16
Downloading.. but slow.. its going at 86.3KB/sec
#42 TheCrowX on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:17
Can t download ??!! anyone else has the same problem ??
#43 Sn4k36 on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:21
here's something i just came across:

When you register for the Customer Preview Program you will receive the Beta 2 release plus Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) — the next major pre-release of Windows Vista — when it is available later this year. The information on this page pertains to both Beta 2 and RC1.
(1 reply) #44 Jdawg683 on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:25
also, about getting a Key...

i just found it easier to go to the Vista mainpage and find the link to the Beta Program. Then you login w/ your Passport info and you'll be able to choose your download once you fill out a survey and location... it'll provide you w/ a download link and a unique key.
#44.1 Sn4k36 on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:28
oh well... I got my cdkey in a email..
(1 reply) #45 Andy-Roo on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:34
I'm not too sure how to explain this...but at least it's downloading fairly quickly.

#45.1 DJ_Myth on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:42
-1% O.o
#46 PharosBR on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:41
bleh, 97% and now the thing is downloading at 2kb/s with no signs of speeding up =|
#47 Lord Nite on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:44
I can't wait to play with this. I've been looking forward to a public beta for a while now.
(1 reply) #48 Obraxis on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:46
I WAS getting 4 Megabytes a second...now cause of 1000s of people im getting only 1Meg a sec
#48.1 Post-It Note on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:45
Dude stop complaining. Most people can't even download at 1 megabyte per second at full speed, and you're complaining that you can't download at 4MB/s.

#50 timmmay on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:53

Download keeps cutting out at about 7% for me.
(1 reply) #52 Richardo on 08 Jun 2006 - 00:58
^^ Consistant network errors right now. Stupid MS Download Manager doesn't automatically reconnect either. It gives you a nasty message box asking you to reconnect. So much for leaving it downloading by itself. I Should have used a proper DL Manager but i'm 42% in now.
#52.1 M.F.D.K on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:08
same here man, constantly annoying network errors
#53 CCtaylor on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:04
Funny now I am using speed download on my mac and getting 3386.3...Damn!!
#54 tiwaris on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:06
Downloading at a meagre speed of about 600 kBps. MS website is definitely getting hammered.
#55 Obraxis on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:06
now nothing

I thought they released vista beta 2 to the public earlier when they decided to release office 12 beta 2 to the public? (office 12 and vista betas was avaliable at the same time no?)
#57.1 Xtreme $niper on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:13
Nah, Office came out first. Vista was only available to MSDN members and select developers. Now it's for the public.
#58 M.F.D.K on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:19
man im getting ****ed of with these network error pop ups, its never gona download, **** taking
#59 CrimsonRedMk on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:19
hmm 2% and now a connection error! I have my key though!
#60 Xtreme $niper on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:21
Not working here either. I think if people just give them some time, they'll be back on track. I can't imagine any other company being able to keep their network stable during a rush like this, so cut them some slack.
#61 jixu on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:21
stopped at 38%, the sever will crash soon,,,,,,,,,,,,
#62 22COOL on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:22
I give up - after trying many times it starts stops starts stops etc... Will wait later tonight and see what happens.
#63 M.F.D.K on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:24
i bet the file will be corrupted because of so many connection errors
#64 abadaba on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:25
I guess im one of the lucky ones that got the news b4 it became main site news everywhere...Cuz ive been downloading at 200k+ since i started...And it still going...But if you wait around tonight im pretty sure it will slow up....
(1 reply) #65 DaveLegg on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:25
You gotta love the fact they haven't yet released it to OEMs and they're releasing it to the public already.
#65.1 Express on 08 Jun 2006 - 01:43
I though OEM releases happened for RTM releases only.
WinHEC attendees already got it. I suspect majority of attendees were third-party OEM developers.
