Vista BETA 2 ISN'T the biggest download event in history, it is the biggest download event in MICROSOFT'S history.
#2.1 vetLOC on 17 Jun 2006 - 08:51
That's subjective. Regardless, I think most people would agree that it was one of, if not the biggest download events in the internets short history. I don't think I've ever heard of any other software/demo/game etc being released that nearly caused the internet to collapse (not literally)

I think NeoCast is a much better name.

Anywho, I'm glad to see another 'cast "airing".
#3.1 vetLOC on 17 Jun 2006 - 11:00
Yeah well, we thought that also
#3.2 shanepitman on 17 Jun 2006 - 14:57
Yeah we liked the other name too until we got a nasty letter from a company that makes some streaming media equipment called, oddly enough, Neocast. Everyone loves to play the "we'll sue" card. *sigh*
#3.3 dnast on 18 Jun 2006 - 03:31
Ah, oh well. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

There are still a fair amount of new features in Vista
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_Vista

And a lot of the features that were cut are going to be free downloads made available by Microsoft after Vistas release (not in Vienna)

One thing I might point out is that if Microsoft’s WGA tool is phoning home frequently this could be an issue for people in other countries. Here in New Zealand for example, some of the ADSL plans only allow you 200MB of traffic (uploading and downloading) and, while WGA defiantly won't use anywhere near 200MB it does add up, especially in households with more than 1 PC.

Even though it’s kind of a stupid excuse (IMO) Adobe has commented on the PDF situation see:

Good discussion, worth listening to

It's been a long wait since March, but judging from that one, it's been well worth it. I'll comment again after I have a listen!

So you guys know, we recorded this on the 13th, so information like the Adobe response to the PDF/MS office thing were not yet released.
#7.1 shanepitman on 17 Jun 2006 - 20:35
Yes indeed. I apologize to everyone for not getting this out earlier in the week. We had a few post recording issues to overcome, but I think we got everything worked out pretty well. We should be good to go for next weeks show, and we al thank you for your interest and support.

A note on Mac beta testing. It is not needed, they dont have thousands of different machines, loads of different hardware, where as MS need to test it on as many different machines as possible to see if its compatible.

bangbang023: I agree with your points on Vista, especially with the waterdown version talk. They have had alot of time etc, i would be repeating what you said.

The MLB issue is simply this....Sling Media and similar companies cut out cable and satellite operators who pay great sums for transmission rights in their areas. It's not about copyright issues. It's about $$. If this becomes prevalent, MLB in the long run loses the strength ($$$ in these Cable and satellite deals. I'd do the same thing if I were MLB.
#11.1 bangbang023 on 17 Jun 2006 - 23:00
and my point completely counter argues that. It's the same thing as taping the game and watching it out of town later on. You are still paying for the access to the channel and should be able to watch it wherever you want. There's no ground for the MLB to stand on. No one else is broadcasting it out of their designated area. Simply put, someone paying for access to those broadcasts is watching the game elsewhere, without circumventing the ads and without sharing it illegally with others.

Wasn't the biggest download in Microsoft's history the pirated version of Windows XP ? lol
