- That looks sweet. I'm waiting toll conroe comes out before I upgrade my hardware.

- Damn, Intel are pushing ahead full force, they won't stop untill they have ensured their lead again

- And your point? That's good for consumer unless of course you are loyal to nothing but AMD. AMD is not bad, but Intel only fuels AMD more to compete harder. I don't see anything wrong with it

- AMD better wake up then, because the new AM2 chips don't seem to be cutting it. The Conroe is wiping the floor with AMD's new chips. And I use AMD chips!

- "Unlike Netburst-based processors, such as the Pentium 4 and Pentium D, Core 2 will not stress designs based on stratospheric clock speeds but rather improvements on other CPU features, including cache size and number of cores." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2
There's a reason my 2.0 GHz Pentium M can beat my brother's 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 in almost EVERY benchmark. -

- lol lylesback2 doesn't understand how Intel's new technology works. He is still living in 2000 when the GHz/MHz still mattered.

- You mean Apple was right all along about the MHz myth?

AMD said back in '99 that's it's not the clock speed that determines the total performance anymore... -

- Thats what's great about compation,to keep pushing the envelope.

- lol, 2.4ghz quad core, lets think about that for a second ...
then go read the article, coolaler's rig is absolutely sick!

- Hiperthreading should be on every version...
just imagine... 8 processes!

- if the unthinkable has happened
and
has in his hands for testing the first ever desktop quad core
pfff. Anyone with resources could do what he does and more. There is no glory on this 'game'

- How about a dual socket motherboard for these?
-
#11 Posted by ssjchris_29 on 25 Jun 2006 - 02:19
- amen to that Zed... coolaler's system is ungodly.... the power of 8 cores... wow... i'd be one happy camper (and F@H'er as well) :-p i'm sure they'll make dual capable xeon's based on kentsfield tho'. they'd be dumb to not offer it to the rich and stupid consumers, and the smart high-performance businesses

- Kentsfield is for single processor systems only. Clovertown will be the multi-CPU capable version of Kentsfield (the Xeon).

- I think this is best for the consumer. The fight between AMD and Intel is definately helping microprocessor technology move faster. Im sure..... Intel has sat down and started thinking only because AMD produced the brilliant K8 architecture (Athlon 64/X2). Also, with Conroe..... now AMD now has to make something special to beat Intel. Hopefully this continues and AMD doesnt lose the battle against Conroe-powered Intel.
Also would want to look how the "reverse-HT(HyperThreading)" from AMD performs in benchmarks. Why doesnt AMD quickly dump K8L and start working on K10 again!! Also waiting for "4x4" with a quad-core Athlon 64 + Java/C# accelerator chip on the other socket running bechmarks on Vista.... Im sure, that can give some competition to Conroe/Kentsfield...

With the world’s most powerful desktop chip in his hands, only Coolaler knows of what mayhem he will bring on the current 3D World Records with this chip, to be released for the rest of us mere mortals in Q1 2007 !! You can view pictures, voice your opinion, and set your eyes on the first quad core desktop chip.
