Microsoft have released a web based version of their next version of Office.

Since Office 2007 Beta 2 was released it has been downloaded by an estimated 2.5 million users and now people are invited to try it first hand online, before downloading.

The new office suite features a radically redesigned interface and XML file format support. The launch is expected to stay on schedule for the end of the year, with wide availability to retail from January 2007.

Citrix Metaframe plug-in is loded into IE. Then you are presented with a remote desktop (even with a Start menu button and taskbar) with all Office applications icons. Clicking them opens the application in your IE browser, just like accessing a remote computer. Very nice!

Tried to use IE to open it up but I guess Google Popup blocker...or something prevents something fun from happening..

Such a cool idea ...it works great (in IE) on a cable line

As others have said, this is not a flash demo, or a "fake" demo in any way ...this is a remote desktop connection (to a virtual computer I am sure) where you can try all the apps fully.

XML file format support is good as long as it isn't limited to only Microsoft Office Open XML. Does anyone know if this beta supports the Open Document Format (ODF) standard? If not, it's not worth the bandwidth to download let alone the price when it is released.

Trys to log in, then comes up with windows not activated. This is on the Citrix installation not mine. Took a screen pic but have nowhere to show it.

Quite funny to see.

I get an error message in both Firefox and IE. It's pretty poor from a company like Microsoft.

pretty poor just because it didn't work for you?

That's true...those other million something people that it has worked for don't mean anything...
