Car safety device manufacturer Intelligent Mechatronic Systems (IMS) has launched a new system designed to give field staff and other frequent travellers easy hands and eyes-free access to their corporate email systems from behind the wheel.

IMS’s iLane is compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled phones and mobile devices such as Palm and BlackBerry, and provides a voice-based interface to access emails. This allows the user to keep their eyes on the road, according to the firm's vice president of marketing, John Reynolds.

Right. Keep your eyes on the road all you want; if the mind isn't there also, you're still as dangerous.

^Maybe so, but if you feel that way maybe we should ban the radio and passengers too.

I think its a good idea, especially since i drive stick, its damn hard to answer important emails while driving (and pulling over is NOT a possibility in downtown vancouver)

And, exactly what is so life-threatening or world-ending critical that you can't wait 10-15 minutes and park your dang car and then reply to an email? I really would like to know what is so damn important that you're willing to risk slamming into me with a 2000 lb piece of metal at 40 or so mph that couldn't wait until you park and called the person back or replied to that email.

It's already been proven - cell phone drivers are worse than drunk drivers.

It should be noted that IMS is a Waterloo Ontario Canada company ... just like RIM is. (edited city name oops!

Perhaps this just shows that Canadian's don't drive as well as everyone else? *LOL* Or we just like to be "uberconnected" *LOL*
