As part of its monthly security update cycle, Microsoft on Tuesday released a dozen security bulletins. Nine of them are tagged critical, the company's highest severity rating. The alerts give details of 20 flaws in Windows and three in Office, all of which Microsoft has now fixed.

"Today, Microsoft patched 23 vulnerabilities, the highest number since their monthly patch program started," Monty Ijzerman, a senior manager at McAfee's Avert Labs, said in a statement. Of those flaws, 11 were publicly known or exploited before Microsoft provided fixes, he said.

"We recommend that customers apply the update immediately." The bulk of the problems addressed by the August patches could be used for attacks via the Web or e-mail. They include security holes in the Internet Explorer Web browser, the Outlook Express e-mail client, and other Windows and Office components.

Actually the page only lists 9 critical patches total. Maybe some of them fix multiple vulnerabilities?

Some of those updates would fix more than 1 problem at once.

Yeh you have to uninstall dotnet2.0 and then reinstall it, and then the hotfix should work.

If they're going to make us wait another year for sp3, then its time for a rollup IMO.

I agree. Having to install 40+ patches after an SP is stupid they could easliy create a new rollup once a year.

Make your own Service Pack? Click Here to find out how. And of course you can add your custom updates to you specs.

It's also easy to integrate them into your install CD - nlite etc will help you there.

WSUS pulled in 23 updates on my 2003 server. This could make for a potentially interesting day.
