- Never! their patch is just a backdoor to steal your precious family trip photos and... saved homework!

- More likely your illegal mp3 collection. They are government workers after all, and let's be honest, the pay is not all that great. I for one would share my collection if it would stop terrorism (if I had one). On the other hand I do have some killer pictures of the river I use to live near by. Kind of boring really...but yeh, whatever floats the individual's boat.

- If they said, "We recommend you NOT install this patch", there'd be just as many people on here with their hateful speach.
In other words: if the government does something RIGHT, it's wrong. If they do something wrong, it's wrong. It's a lose/lose situation. Being disrespectful and hateful to the current administration, JUST because you don't like it DOES NOT make you look cool. It makes you look ignorant. -

I Agree..
I live in Portugal, but i for one would like goverment to issue alerts like this..
The blaster could somewhat been avoided with alerts like this, if being taken seriously by people it would avoid what it did..
And kids not all the world knows when an update/bugfix is released.. -

- The problem isn't that this is coming from "the government", but that is it coming from THIS government...the most corrupt in US history. So, right or wrong, I don't blame people for not trusting ANYTHING these proven uber-scumbags say.

- Just ignore all of the suspicious network activity that happens after you install the patch.

When you say "most corrupt" then you must have an "uber" amount of examples of how corrupt they are. We (USA) certainly have had a few crooked presidents in our day (no doubt about that), so for you to say "most" then it should be easy for you to give (at least) 3 specific (with evidence) 'crimes' they have committed to make this the "most corrupt" government in our history. I'm anxious to read your reply.

- Lets see, three distinct examples of corruption in this US government.
1) The massive phone wire-tap scandal, that was unconstitutional and against the law, authorised by? the current US government.
2) The .XXX domain rejection. The .XXX domain was rejected on the grounds that the US Government didn't like it, this was clearly because the government is corrupt with christian Evangelicals who dont want porn to be previalent around the internet, but they seem to miss the fact that this would put porn in a nice easily blockable place (*.*.XXX anyone?)
3) The current Israeli-Lebanon scrap. The US is probably the only country against stopping Israel killing thousands of Lebonese civillians, (even the UK has folded and wants an immediate ceasefire in the conflict). Blind to the fact that Israel fired a multitude of shells and airstrikes into Lebanon because of 2 soldiers being kidnapped, only later did the rockets from Hezbollah fire over Israel's border in response to the massive bombardment Lebanon has suffered. Why is the US against any immediate ceasefire? its not because they think hezbollah is a terrorist organization, but rather there are people high-up in the current government who believe that Israel should be treated like the closest thing to god, because they believe in End Times theology.
Anyways thats 3 distinct examples of corruption in the current US government, corruption that seems to be extending to the UK, with Tony Blair who rest assured wont be having another 3-4 years as PM.
I live in the UK though so, watching the BBC and various websites you learn this stuff.
There are more examples if you wish me to give them? because both the UK and the US have lost any form of trust they had with them and TBH i dont think the replublicans and labour are going to get in again. -

I still don’t see it as a problem. Infact I imagine the arrest of 21 people in UK yesterday would have been possible by immense surveillance of those terrorists. It's for out own good. If you are clean, you nothing to worry about.

- Emm, so this only applies to the U.S. then? Sweet, cuz there is no way I'm applying something like this to any one of my systems at home. Seems kinda bunk that after all the news the goverment has been in with regards to web control and wiretaps they issue this warning for everyone to do this? Bollocks.

- There are a whole lot of serious vulnerabilities in windows that need to be patched without delay, such as the WMF vulnerability...but not word from the dept. of homeland security until now. What the heck? This sudden interest in making sure that everyone is patched is quite suspicious and I for one would like to know the reason why they decided to make this notice.

"Users are encouraged to avoid delay in applying this security patch," the Department of Homeland Security said in the statement. The patch fixes a serious flaw that, if exploited, could enable an attacker to remotely take complete control of an affected system, the agency said.
Microsoft on Tuesday issued a dozen security bulletins, nine of which were tagged "critical," the company's highest severity rating. However, the flaw addressed in MS06-040 is the only one in the updates that could let an anonymous attacker remotely commandeer a Windows PC without any user interaction.
The flaw has some similarities to the Windows bug that enabled the notorious MSBlast worm to spread in 2003. Both security vulnerabilities are related to a Windows component called "remote procedure call," which provides support for networking features such as file sharing and printer sharing.
